We are proactively committed to better serve the artists, staff, crews, audiences, and broader community through our organization’s values. We welcome applicants who are in alignment with our organization’s values of empathy, dignity, and care.

    Position Summary:

Lincoln Center Theater (LCT) is seeking an Associate Director of Community Engagement to help shape the development and execution of initiatives that will use our artistic programming as a framework for creative work, dialogue, and learning for our audiences and community partners. These initiatives will develop strong, equitable community partnerships; expand and deepen our relationship with our audiences; and make LCT a more welcoming place and dynamic space for everyone.

Part of a four-person Education team and reporting to the Director of Education and Community Engagement, the Associate Director of Community Engagement is responsible for developing partnerships with a strategic selection of cultural and community-based organizations, city-wide. The Associate Director will use LCT’s productions, along with its artistic and educational resources, as a springboard to develop programming with and for community partners, as well as for our existing ticket-buyers and education stakeholders.

The purpose of our community engagement initiatives will be to celebrate our current and prospective audience’s creativity through hands-on programming; to spark our audience’s curiosity through curated discussions and convenings inspired by our shows; to enhance our community’s sense of belonging at LCT through programming that welcomes them into our spaces and celebrates their presence; and to promote theater as means of positively impacting health and well-being.

    Responsibilities:

    • Cultivate collaborative, equitable community partnerships that align with and amplify LCT’s educational and artistic work.
    • Collaborate with Artistic and Education staff to develop creative and innovative programs and related activities that resonate with LCT’s artistic work.
    • Serve as a liaison between LCT and its community partners ensuring that the views and needs of each partner are heard and responded to.
    • Coordinate initiatives, as needed, with other LCT departments, e.g. Development or Marketing.
    • Ensure that community engagement programs adhere to timelines and budget parameters.
    • Supervise the staff necessary to facilitate community engagement programs, drawing from LCT’s existing teaching artist faculty and making additional part-time, seasonal hires as needed.
    • Generate and maintain community engagement project budgets, tracking expenditures, and entering facilitator/teaching artist payroll.
    • Facilitate the ongoing assessment of LCT’s community engagement programs and contribute to reporting to funders and other stakeholders.
    • Coordinate the sourcing and purchasing of materials for LCT’s community engagement programs.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

    • A minimum of five years of experience as a program manager or senior teaching artist in a community arts organization, an applied theater company, or in a community-based educational, service, or social justice organization with a significant arts component. Theater experience is strongly preferred but not required.
    • Substantial experience in arts administration, including in budgeting, grant writing and reporting, along with hiring and supervising teaching artists and other staff.
    • The ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively, with a high level of attention to detail, and a commitment to seeing projects through to their successful completion.
    • Ability to execute work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; exceptional interpersonal skills; flexibility, curiosity, and the ability to solve problems creatively.
    • Ability to work nights and weekends when required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite apps.
    • Desirable but not required: knowledge of Spanish and/or Mandarin.

    Compensation:

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with an annual salary range of $75,000-85,000. Lincoln Center Theater provides comprehensive benefits including: paid medical, dental and vision insurance, 403(b) and employer match, and paid time off.
