Location: Remote
Employment Type: Part-time (Approximately 25-30 hours/week; hours may increase during major holidays and events)
Salary: $30-$35 an hour, depending on experience
About The City Congregation
The City Congregation for Humanistic Judaism (TCC) is a warm, inclusive, and intellectually vibrant secular Jewish community based in New York City. We are seeking a highly organized, proactive Operations & Communications Manager to serve as the administrative backbone of the congregation, supporting our Rabbi, leadership, educational programs, members, and community events.
This fully remote position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and thrives in a collaborative nonprofit environment. The Operations & Communications Manager plays a central role in ensuring the congregation's day-to-day operations, communications, finances, and programs run smoothly while serving as a trusted partner to congregational leadership.
Flexible daytime availability for meetings and responsiveness during the workweek is expected. Occasional evening or weekend availability is required for major holidays and congregational events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary administrative liaison among the Rabbi, Board of Trustees, committees, KidSchool families, members, volunteers, vendors, and outside partners.
- Manage member and donor records across multiple platforms, including Salesforce, QuickBooks Online, Mailchimp, Paychex, Stripe, and other organizational systems.
- Draft and distribute email communications, maintain the congregation's website, manage social media, respond to member and prospective member inquiries, and help ensure clear, timely communication.
- Provide administrative support to the Rabbi, Board of Trustees, committees, and KidSchool leadership, including scheduling, meeting coordination, and follow-up.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, reimbursements, donation processing, and financial recordkeeping in coordination with the Treasurer.
- Coordinate logistics for religious services, holidays, educational programs, KidSchool, Board meetings, fundraising initiatives, and special community events, including registrations, materials, volunteer coordination, and post-event follow-up.
- Maintain organized digital records, prepare reports, track fundraising and membership data, and identify opportunities to improve administrative processes and workflows. as the primary administrative liaison among the Rabbi, Board, committees, KidSchool families, members, volunteers, and outside vendors
Qualifications:
- Experience in operations, administration, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Proficiency with cloud-based platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Paychex, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Experience learning new software quickly is highly valued.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- A collaborative, service-oriented approach and the ability to build positive relationships with members, volunteers, staff, and leadership.
- Experience working remotely and managing projects independently is preferred.
- Familiarity with Jewish organizations or nonprofit environments is a plus, but not required.
