    Descrição

    House Our Neighbors is hiring a full time Organizer who will be focused on community education, engagement, and mobilization to carry out our mission. Working closely with the Policy and Advocacy Co-Executive Director, the Organizer will engage grassroots community members, identify and recruit leaders, and mobilize supporters to advocate for our policy and campaign objectives.

    This is a full-time, nonexempt, hourly position, and House Our Neighbors observes a 35 hour work week. As we regularly run campaigns that require engagement with the general public, this position will have regular evening and weekend work. This is a one-year position, with opportunity to extend based on organizational fundraising.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Community Engagement

    • Recruit, organize, train, retain, and build rapport with volunteers
    • Organize regular monthly events for the base - socials, lunch & learns, volunteer opportunities
    • Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, faith-based organizations, and grassroots networks to enhance long-term organizational capacity for future policy change

    Mobilize Supporters for Social Housing Policy and Advocacy

    • Organizing the public to turn out for Seattle Comprehensive Plan hearings and events
    • Organizing volunteers to advocate for our legislative priorities during the WA State Legislative Session
    • Represent HON at meetings, community events, in coalitions, and other venues
    • Tabling, door knocking, text banking and/or phonebanking the general public to engage in our priorities and campaigns

    Event Planning and Management

    • Organizing regular events/meetups that engage our volunteers and supporters in building community, learning, and advancing our advocacy and policy priorities
    • Event operations, including arranging event logistics, managing registration, and event promotion on various communication channels.

    Administrative

    • Update and maintain volunteer databases and spreadsheets
    • Continuously evaluate mobilization strategies to maximize participation and achieve advocacy goals.
    • All other duties as assigned

    Required skills:

    • Minimum 3 years prior organizing experience
    • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast paced environment
    • Excellent people skills and past experience engaging with the general public and moving people to action
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a team, and ability to work independently on projects
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for varied audiences.
    • Ability to give clear instructions and directions to other staff and volunteers
    • Experience in quick turnaround mobilization for high stakes activities
    • Experience in developing scripts, talking points, and supporting community members in speaking in public
    • Basic digital literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or Google Suite and Google Drive.

    Desired skills:

    • Prior experience with ballot initiative campaigns and/or candidate campaigns
    • VAN Experience: Cutting turf, pulling lists, integrating VAN with other platforms
    • Familiarity with housing justice, specifically social housing
    • Knowledge Seattle’s land use code and comprehensive plan process
    • Has led door to door canvassing and/or phonebanking
    • Experience with GIS
    • Thrives working with a small startup team and are comfortable with a changing environment as we learn and grow with this new organization

    Pay is $41 per hour, based on a 35 hour work week. For full-time employees, HON offers health benefits, a transit pass, over 5 weeks of PTO, which includes Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time, and 11 observed holidays.

    Work Environment:

    HON currently observes a hybrid working environment. We have an office in a coworking space in Pioneer Square where we work together in-office at least three days a week, with the flexibility to work from home as job requirements allow.
