    Studio in a School (Studio) is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and collaborative development professional with an interest in art education to join our team as the Development Manager. The Development Manager provides essential administrative and logistical support for Studio’s fundraising in all areas, including institutional grants, individual gifts, and special events. The Development Manager works closely with Development, Communications, Finance, and Program staff, and knows the history, programs, finances, and funding of Studio as an articulate advocate for its mission and programs. Playing a key role on a small and dedicated team, the successful Development Manager gains invaluable hands-on experience in all facets of nonprofit fundraising while having a real impact on the day-to-day and long-term operations of NYC’s premiere visual arts education organization.

    The Development Manager is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Director of Development.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Donor Outreach and Communications

    • Play lead role in creation and submittal of government grant applications and reports; ensure timely updates to all government grant management systems.
    • Write letters, proposals and reports to foundations and individual donors.
    • Manage donor prospect pipeline including prospect research
    • Oversee production of two fundraising appeals each year.
    • Generate donor acknowledgement letters.
    • Work with Communications team and Program staff to organize supplemental materials for proposals and reports.

    Data and Documentation

    • Update Raiser’s Edge database with all donor outreach and communications.
    • Process all gifts and grants and ensure timely recording of all donor interactions.
    • Prepare custom financial reports and support Finance staff with revenue documentation.
    • Prepare contribution reports and other materials for Board meetings.
    • Keep contact information current and create mailing lists for appeals, events, and newsletters.
    • Maintain electronic and hard copy gift and grant files.

    Cultivation and Fundraising Events

    • Support Director of Development and event hosts in planning and logistics.
    • Compile invitee lists and oversee invitations; attend events.
    • Plan and execute event follow-ups.
    • Oversee invoicing and shipping for print sales and maintain print database.
    • Oversee peer-to-peer fundraising efforts of participants on charity team for Five Boro Bike Tour and NYC Marathon.
    • Manage corporate engagement volunteer opportunities at partner schools and events.

    Desired Skills and Background

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • A minimum of three years of experience in a Development office with a broad understanding of institutional and individual fundraising practices.
    • Experience using Raiser’s Edge and Raiser’s Edge NXT; experience with Microsoft Office; strong familiarity with online donation platforms such as Network for Good and e-communication platforms such as Constant Contact.
    • Knowledge of any of the following preferred but not required: New York City philanthropic community, government arts agencies, arts education, and the visual arts field.

    • Strong work ethic; highly organized and able to anticipate, plan for, and reach deadlines.
    • Willingness to take the initiative and prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills and a high comfort level working with financial data.
    • Practiced in handling confidential information and appropriate use of discretion.

    Location

    • We are currently working on a hybrid schedule. The Development Manager will be asked to work at least 2 days per week in our office, though this schedule may shift and evolve.

    Hours

    • As a member of the administrative staff, the Development Manager is expected to work from 9 AM to 5 PM each workday. Any schedule shift request must be requested in advance and receive approval from the supervisor.

    Salary

    • The annual salary range for this full-time position is $75,000-$82,000. We welcome an open discussion with interested candidates about the full compensation package.
