    Descrição

    About AHA

Amigos Hospitalito Atitlán (AHA) is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Hospitalito Atitlán, a nonprofit community hospital in Santiago Atitlán, on the shores of Lake Atitlán, in Guatemala. The Hospitalito Atitlán’s patient population and staff is largely indigenous Tzʼutujil Maya. AHA raises funds, principally—although not exclusively—from within the United States, to support the Hospitalito Atitlán’s operations, enabling it to provide high-quality healthcare in an underserved Guatemalan community. We are a committed all-volunteer board of 14 members entering an exciting and pivotal period of growth.

    The Opportunity

With this Executive Director, AHA is seeking its first full-time hire. We are looking for an experienced, self-directed, collaborative nonprofit leader who can work with significant autonomy to grow our donor base, deepen relationships with existing supporters, and serve as a bridge between our US community and the remarkable people doing the work of providing lifesaving care in Guatemala.

You will work with AHA board members and on-site Guatemalan colleagues to review, revise, and establish new systems, processes, and best practices—with the primary goal of increasing revenue from individual and institutional donors. While you will report to the AHA board, you will be given significant autonomy in your day-to-day work. In addition, as our sole full-time staff member, your role will cover a wide set of activities. As a result, experience, self-direction, self-organization, and willingness to “wear many hats” are necessary for the role.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fundraising and Development (Primary Focus)

Lead all fundraising for AHA, with the goal of growing our current base of several hundred donors and increasing annual unrestricted revenue. This includes:

    • Identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new individual and institutional donors
    • Stewarding and deepening relationships with existing supporters
    • Designing and executing multi-channel annual giving campaigns, year-end appeals, and recurring giving programs

    Donor Communications

In partnership with staff at the Hospitalito Atitlán, oversee external communications including newsletters, impact reports, social media, and direct donor correspondence. Ensure that donors feel consistently connected to the mission and the people it serves, and communicate the impactful work being done by those at Hospitalito Atitlán.

    Board Partnership

Work closely with the AHA Board of Directors to keep them informed, engaged, and effective as a governing body. Support board meetings, provide regular reporting, and help identify ways board members can contribute meaningfully to fundraising and organizational growth.

    Governance and Organizational Development

Help build the governance and organizational infrastructure of a growing nonprofit, including work on donor management systems, communications workflows, organizational policies, and reporting practices that set AHA up for long-term success.

    Partnership with the Hospitalito Atitlán

Develop a close working relationship with leadership at the Hospitalito Atitlán. This includes spending an initial multi-week period on-site in Guatemala to learn about the hospital’s programs, community context, and history. Continue to travel to Guatemala semi-annually for shorter-duration trips. Over time, take on the lead role in fundraising activities and donor storytelling that have historically been managed from within Guatemala by Hospitalito Atitlán staff.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Demonstrated track record in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on individual donor development
    • Professional-level Spanish proficiency — you will use it regularly with hospital staff and leadership in Guatemala (although Spanish is a second language—after Tz’utujil—for most in Santiago Atitlán)
    • Comfort working in a self-directed, remote environment with a volunteer board
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to tell compelling stories to diverse audiences
    • Willingness and enthusiasm for periodic travel to Guatemala, including an initial multi-week on-site immersion
    • Alignment with AHA’s values: community health, equity, cultural respect, and partnership
    • Willingness to explore new technology, including donor engagement platforms and Artificial Intelligence applications
    • Enthusiasm for direct donor outreach in different forms (phone, teleconference [i.e. Zoom, etc.], email, in-person)

    Preferred

    • Experience living or working in Guatemala or Central America/Southern Mexico
    • Familiarity with global health, international development, or community-based healthcare
    • Background with small or emerging nonprofits entering transitional or growth phases

    Compensation

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $80,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits be discussed as part of the interview process. Cost of work-related travel will be covered.

    Location

This is a fully remote, US-based position. Some travel is required as relates to donor stewardship, US-based fundraising events, and semi-annual travel to the Hospitalito Atitlán in Guatemala.
