This position will engage Latin American immigrant families in South King County to identify local environmental justice concerns, participate in community-driven projects, and build leadership to advance healthier, more sustainable neighborhoods.

This role is part of Para Los Niños’ broader commitment to environmental justice and community well-being, aligning with the EPA’s Thriving Communities framework to ensure families have access to clean air, water, and safe community spaces.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Build trust and relationships with PLN families and community members through outreach, workshops, and home visits related to environmental health (air, water, soil, housing, and safety).
    • Coordinate environmental justice education sessions for parents and youth, covering topics such as lead awareness, soil safety, recycling, and climate resilience.
    • Support families in identifying local environmental concerns and help design small-scale assessment or clean-up projects.
    • Conduct community surveys, interviews, and focus groups to document environmental health challenges.
    • Collaborate with local partners (Public Health – Seattle & King County, Dirt Alert, community-based organizations) to connect families with available programs and resources.
    • Assist in developing and implementing community-based projects under the Thriving Communities or similar funding opportunities.
    • Track data, participation, and outcomes for grant reporting while maintaining strict confidentiality.
    • Represent PLN in environmental justice networks, coalitions, and planning efforts in South King County.
    • Support special events, fundraising, and communication efforts related to PLN’s environmental programs.
    • Communicate regularly with the Program Manager about progress, challenges, and community needs.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in community outreach, environmental justice, public health, or related work.
    • 100% bilingual in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking).
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
    • Experience working with diverse BIPOC communities, particularly Latin American families.
    • Knowledge of environmental justice, health equity, or sustainability issues a plus.
    • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with comfort leading community meetings.
    • Collaborative, proactive, and committed to community empowerment.
    • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to lift to 50 lbs and assist in event setup.

    Time Commitment

    • Monday–Friday schedule; flexibility required for evenings or weekends.
