    Descrição

    Organization Background:

    For more than 20 years, Socially Responsible Agriculture Project (SRAP) has served as a mobilizing force to help communities protect themselves from the damages caused by industrial livestock operations and to advocate for a food system built on regenerative practices, justice, democracy, and resilience.

    Our team includes technical experts, independent family farmers, and rural residents who have faced the threats of factory farms in their communities. When asked for help, SRAP offers free support, providing communities with the knowledge and skills to protect their right to clean water, air, and soil and to a healthy, just, and vibrant future.

    Position Overview:

    The self-motivated, outgoing Regional Representative works directly with communities to help residents protect themselves from the harmful impacts of industrial livestock operations. The Regional Representative collaborates with residents to organize communities, navigate regulatory processes, engage policymakers, earn media coverage, develop public education campaigns, and build grassroots political power to advocate for policies that safeguard communities and promote socially responsible agriculture.

    The ideal candidate will embody the values of SRAP and be willing to call upon their experience and networks in the food and agriculture system to provide outreach, base building, training, education, and leadership development opportunities in communities throughout the United States. The Regional Representative will report to the Community Support Program Director.

    Specifically, the Regional Representative will be responsible for:

    • Responding to incoming help requests from impacted communities by sharing tools and resources and developing action plans in conjunction with other Community Support Program team members;
    • Facilitating meetings with community groups to identify advocacy and organizing opportunities based on community needs and existing regulatory and political conditions;
    • Assisting with the creation of educational materials, webinars, and panel discussions on issues related to industrial agriculture’s impact on communities;
    • Implementing campaigns, hosting community listening sessions, providing outreach to community members, and conducting issue and regulation-based research to refine campaign context and direction;
    • Networking and collaborating with other groups that are organizing in the communities and states impacted by factory farms;
    • Communicating opportunities for media exposure, coalition building, and networking with impacted communities and state and national organizations;
    • Identifying and developing community member leaders by building one-on-one relationships and serving in mentor capacities;
    • Collaborating with other SRAP programs and sharing information when necessary;
    • Actively participating in weekly team meetings and regularly providing program-related updates to supervisor;
    • Updating case information in Insightly on a regular basis and downloading documents related to cases in central hub state folders;
    • Other related assignments, as necessary.

    Desired Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of experience organizing communities, groups, or coalitions.
    • Experience in building power among marginalized communities.
    • Knowledge of food and agriculture issues and/or working directly within the food and agriculture system, preferred.
    • Highly engaging and empathetic personality with ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds.
    • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously in a remote setting.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to work independently while also being highly collaborative.
    • Comfort with social media and digital communication.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workplace suites with ability to update the program’s database.
    • Commitment to SRAP’s mission and core values of environmental and social justice.

    Work Environment: This position is fully remote with occasional evening hours and travel expected. Applicants must reside in the United States. This is a full-time, exempt position.

    Compensation: Salary of $60,000 to $65,000, dependent upon experience. Benefits include fully covered health, vision, dental, and life insurance; monthly communications stipend; annual wellness stipend; a 403(b) retirement plan; and generous paid time off.
