Student Support Manager
Detalhes
Descrição
Reports to: Chief of School Operations
Location: 123 Darling Ave, South Portland, Maine
Start Date: August 10, 2026
Contract Length: 10 Months
MOXIE Public Schools is a new public charter school launching in South Portland, Maine in fall 2026. As our Student Support Manager, you’ll join a dynamic, equity-driven team creating a new kind of public school—one that combines rigorous, competency-based foundational instruction with real-world interdisciplinary projects and long-term advising relationships. We believe every student deserves an education that is both academically excellent and deeply human.
As a founding team member, you will help bring that vision to life from day one, serving as MOXIE's first student support and wellness staff member, working directly under the Chief of School Operations to build and deliver coordinated support services for students and families. This is a dual-function founding role: roughly half of your time will be dedicated to school social work and student support functions*, with the remaining half dedicated to broader school operations responsibilities as MOXIE launches and scales.
This role is designed for someone with a social work background who is also excited about building a school from scratch — and who brings the flexibility, creativity, and hustle that a startup school environment requires. You will need to be as comfortable navigating an IEP meeting as you are supporting enrollment outreach or setting up a new student intake system.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support Services & Case Coordination
- Coordinate wraparound support services for students, including referrals to community mental health, family services, and other external providers
- Support IEP and 504 process coordination, serving as a liaison between families, teachers, and service providers
- Maintain accurate records for student support cases, referrals, and service delivery in alignment with FERPA and applicable state requirements
- Develop and manage systems for tracking student wellness, attendance patterns, and behavior to identify students in need of additional support
- Participate in student support team meetings, problem-solving cases alongside instructional staff and the CSO
Advisory Leadership
- Serve as a long-term advisor to a small group of students, leading daily Advisory focused on social-emotional learning, personal goal-setting, and community connection
- Build sustained, trusting relationships with advisees and their families across the school year
- Support advisees in developing and reflecting on personal goals, wellbeing, and sense of purpose
- Coordinate with instructional staff and the student support team when advisees need additional services or intervention
Direct Student & Family Services
- Provide individual and small-group direct support to students experiencing social-emotional, behavioral, or family-related challenges
- Build trusting, long-term relationships with students and families as a visible, accessible resource in the school community
- Conduct student and family needs assessments and develop individualized support plans
- Serve as a point of contact for families navigating community resources, benefits access, and school-related concerns
- Support crisis response as needed, in coordination with the CSO and school leadership
Founding School Operations Flex
As a founding team member at a startup school, this role carries meaningful operational responsibilities beyond traditional social work duties. The exact mix will evolve as the school grows, but in Year 1 you should expect to:
- Support family and community engagement events, enrollment outreach, and school information sessions
- Assist with student enrollment and re-enrollment processes, including supporting families through the application and intake process
- Contribute to special education compliance logistics, including coordination with external evaluators and service providers
- Help build and refine MOXIE’s student support systems, protocols, and data infrastructure
- Step into other operational needs as they arise — this is a startup, and everyone is building the plane while flying it
School Culture & Founding Community
- Model MOXIE’s six core values — Know Yourself, Show Courage, Stay Curious, Do Your Part, Build What Matters, and Lift Others Up — in every student, family, and staff interaction
- Participate in school-wide culture and community-building activities, including weekly community launch, service/club time, and school-wide celebrations
- Serve as a school-wide resource on trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive student support
- Contribute to shaping MOXIE’s approach to whole-child development as a founding voice on the team
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work (BSW or MSW)
- Maine licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or eligibility to obtain by start date
- Experience working directly with children, youth, or families in school, community, or clinical settings
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with young people and families from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
- Commitment to educational equity and MOXIE’s mission to serve all of Maine’s learners
Preferred
- School social work experience or school-based field placement
- Familiarity with IEP/504 processes and special education compliance
- Experience with community resource navigation and wraparound services in Maine
- Background in trauma-informed care, restorative practices, or culturally responsive approaches
- Comfort with data systems, student information platforms, or case management tools
- Experience with or genuine enthusiasm for startup environments, founding teams, or building new systems from scratch
