    About The Share Trust

The Share Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing community-driven collective action around the world. We believe that people should have the power to shape their own communities. Yet, today, only a small fraction of international aid reaches the local actors who are leading the change they want to see.

To address this systemic imbalance, The Share Trust takes a holistic, ecosystem-based approach—working to shift power, processes, and funding directly to local actors. We do this through two primary areas of focus:

The first area focuses on research and advocacy for localization. We conduct rigorous research on localization strategies—examining cost-efficiency, effectiveness, and impact—to strengthen the evidence base. We also collaborate with bilateral donors, INGOs, and local actors to lead advocacy campaigns, offer thought leadership, and develop tools and frameworks that aim to fundamentally transform how international assistance is designed and delivered.

The second area strengthens the sector of Global South intermediaries who are positioned to receive mor significant power and funding. Much of this is achieved in deep partnership with Warande, based in Nairobi. Key intermediaries include:

    • Local Coalition Accelerators (LCAs) – A flagship initiative of the Share Trust and Warande—currently operating in Uganda, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Ethiopia. LCAs provide both financial and technical support to coalitions over a three-year (or longer) period to enhance their effectiveness and sustainability.
    • Self-Help Groups (SHGs) - One of the most evidence-based and cost-effective models for advancing community-driven development. These groups—typically composed of 10–25 members—meet weekly to save, launch small enterprises, and support one another. They harness the transformative power of collective action to generate extraordinary local impact.
    • Alternative Pooled Funds – An emerging collaborative funding mechanism designed to channel more resources directly to local actors in both humanitarian and development contexts.

    Position Overview

If you’re ready to turn your day job into a force for global change, we want to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Communications Associate who brings experience working across multiple communications channels, enjoys content creation and management, and has a strong interest in storytelling. This role supports the execution of strategic communications projects by helping plan, coordinate, and implement initiatives that elevate our brand, amplify impact, and engage key audiences.

The ideal candidate is organized, creative, curious, and collaborative, with an eagerness to learn, ask thoughtful questions, and use communications as a tool for positive social change. You will work closely with the Associate Director of Communications to help advance The Share Trust’s mission and growing global impact.

    Responsibilities:

    Communications Support & Execution

    • Support the Associate Director of Communications in executing organizational communication strategies across digital and print platforms.
    • Produce, edit, and format content for the website, social media, newsletters, email updates, and promotional materials under the guidance of the Associate Director of Communications.
    • Assist in maintaining a regular content calendar and posting cadence across communications channels.
    • Support monitoring of online presence to ensure consistency in brand voice, messaging, and visual identity.
    • Help collect metrics and data on communications performance and prepare summaries to inform planning and reporting.
    • Coordinate with internal teams to gather information, stories, and updates for communications materials.

    Design, Multimedia & Collateral Support

    • Support the translation of research findings into accessible and visually engaging communications materials.
    • Assist in layout, formatting, and visual consistency for reports, briefs, donor updates, and presentations.
    • Support production workflows for communications materials by tracking drafts, feedback, approvals, and final publication.
    • Maintain organized archives of design assets, templates, and finalized materials.

    Campaign & Project Support

    • Support advocacy campaigns by producing and adapting communications products such as social media graphics, blogs, fact sheets, and email content.
    • Assist with campaign timelines, content coordination, and asset tracking across teams.
    • Support fundraising communications, including assisting with end-of-year appeal materials.
    • Help coordinate with partners and intermediaries to gather content, visuals, and stories for campaigns and storytelling efforts.

    Collaboration & Capacity Building

    • Work closely with the Associate Director of Communications to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and communications standards.
    • Support coordination with external partners, consultants, or designers as needed.
    • Assist in documenting processes, best practices, and learnings to strengthen communications systems and capacity over time.

What You Need to Succeed In This Role:

    • Lead with empathy and curiosity, seeing kindness as a strength in teamwork and communications.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, partners, and external contributors.
    • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and openness to feedback.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, timelines, and changing priorities with guidance.
    • Exposure to advocacy, outreach, or nonprofit communications efforts, with interest in learning how campaigns are planned and implemented.
    • Experience or familiarity supporting social media, email newsletters, and websites using platforms like Mailchimp or Squarespace.
    • Interest or experience in creating visual and digital content using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Comfort working in a global, multicultural environment across time zones.

    What We Offer:

At the Share Trust, we recognize that our team is central to achieving our ambitious mission. We are committed to providing a comprehensive and supportive employment package that reflects the value of your contribution. Key benefits of working with us include:

    • Mission-Driven Work - Join a dynamic, fast-paced team that is working to fundamentally shift the global system—empowering Global South leaders with greater power and funding to help communities become more resilient and self-directed in their development.
    • Competitive Compensation - We offer a competitive salary that reflects your experience and the value you bring to our mission.
