ABOUT SEIU LOCAL 509
SEIU Local 509 is a fast-growing, progressive union representing over 28,000 state workers, human
service workers, higher education faculty and family child care providers in Massachusetts. This position
is part of the Local’s admin department. In the current political environment, the union has a steadfast
vision to increase participation and power among its rank-and-file membership. SEIU Local 509 is part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the largest and fastest-growing labor unions in the United States.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet visitors at front desk and cover incoming calls
- Collect and distribute all incoming mail and manage mailboxes
- Track and document credit card activities
- Maintain internal electronic meeting and meeting room calendar
- Order and arrange food for all internal meetings
- Maintain orderly reception area, common areas, storage
- Maintain, inventory and order office supplies, swag and equipment
- Compile and complete mailings
- Fill building and office work-orders
- Provide assistance to meeting participants
- Assemble new member packets
- Maintain directory and internal forms and documents
- Assist during events with registration, setup and logistics
- Assist with conference registration, logistics and travel booking for staff and union members
- General data entry, copying and filing
- Coordination and assistance with postage, phone, copiers and IT vendors
- Other administrative duties as needed
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position is supervised by the Director of Administration
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to be flexible and balance several projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite
- Ability to communicate well and function across the sectors and tiers of the union including staff,
- members, officers, vendors, and visitors
- Openness to learning new systems
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments, manage competing
- deadlines and maintain confidentiality
- Attention to detail and grammar; Bilingual Spanish skills a plus
COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & LOCATION
This is a full-time bargaining unit position based in Marlborough, MA with regular hours of Monday –
Friday, 9am-5pm, and occasional evening/weekend assignments.
As of 1/1/26, the salary range for this position is $76,777.28-$87,522.68 depending on experience.
Benefits include, at no cost to the employee: health insurance with FSA and HRA, dental insurance,
short and long-term disability, a pension, an optional 401k, and generous paid time off.
Must have a driver's license, vehicle registration, and/or intent to purchase a vehicle. Our main office is
located in Marlborough, MA.
