    About AAPF

    Founded in 1996, The African American Policy Forum (AAPF) is an innovative think tank that connects academics, activists, and policy-makers to promote efforts to dismantle structural inequality. We utilize new ideas and innovative perspectives to transform public discourse and policy. We promote frameworks and strategies that address a vision of racial justice that embraces the intersections of race, gender, class, and the array of barriers that disempower those who are marginalized in society. AAPF is dedicated to advancing and expanding racial justice, gender equality, and the indivisibility of all human rights, both in the U.S. and internationally.

    AAPF is seeking an Arts & Media - Intersectionality Matters! With Kimberlé Crenshaw Fellow to join our 2025 cohort!

    Responsibilities for the IMKC Fellow include:

    • Research and writing for various episodes of Intersectionality Matters! With Kimberlé Crenshaw
    • Guest pitching for IMKC
    • Collecting sound and interviews on the ground from AAPF’s Critical Race Theory Summer School and other offsite locations
    • Editing award application reels and supporting submissions
    • Social media support

    The ideal candidate should have experience with:

    • Audio & video recording, editing, and producing; both in studio and in the field
    • Writing for radio, social media, and video
    • Talent booking and handling

    Education (must have education with one or more of the disciplines listed below):

    • Journalism
    • Social justice
    • Black history
    • Gender studies

    AAPF’s IMKC Summer Fellow will learn or hone:

    • How to structure IMKC’s complex script
    • Episode production (voice over, music cues, clips, copyright, etc.)
    • How to do proper tech checks with guests
    • How to write effective chase emails
    • Basics of field recording
    • Audio and video cutting and mixing

    The Summer Fellow will benefit AAPF by:

    • Increasing podcast episode output and archive of material for future episodes
    • Assisting with production of a new series focused on important historic Black sites
    • Increasing capacity to support CRT Summer School and additional emerging opportunities

    Duration:

    • 8‑week full‑time fellowship, starting Monday, June 23, 2025, and concluding Friday, August 19, 2025.

    Time Commitment:

    • Approximately 35–40 hours per week, structured as a traditional full-time schedule.
    • Fellows will engage in both remote and on-site activities, including coverage of in-person events like the CRT Summer School.

    Compensation:

    • $600/week, totaling up to $4,800 over the 8 weeks.
      • Paid at mid-point and end of the fellowship, depending on administrative protocols.

      • Familiarity with Kimberlé Crenshaw's work
