    Position Summary: The Deputy Director of Organizing is a senior leadership role responsible for strengthening CUFFH’s organizing infrastructure, managing staff, and advancing housing justice campaigns. Working closely with the Director of Organizing, this role supports the development and execution of strategy, builds member power, and ensures strong, coordinated implementation across campaigns.

    At the core of this position is a commitment to building tenant power to fight displacement, improve housing conditions, and win long-term solutions to the housing crisis. This role centers on organizing tenants across rent-stabilized, subsidized, and other targeted buildings; developing grassroots leadership; launching and strengthening tenant associations; and advancing tenant-led campaigns.

    The Deputy Director also plays a critical role in program design, data systems, and evaluation, ensuring that CUFFH’s organizing work is strategic, measurable, and scalable. This includes overseeing key programs—such as CUFFH Youth and community leadership initiatives—and ensuring their effective implementation and alignment with organizational priorities. The Deputy Director assumes leadership in the absence of the Director of Organizing and supports the long-term growth of CUFFH’s organizing department and membership base.     Core Responsibilities:

    Team Management & Internal Leadership

    • Supervise community organizers and designated part-time staff, ensuring accountability, alignment, and support
    • Identify areas of growth and support needed for both staff and CUFFH membership
    • Lead debrief processes for canvassing efforts, including tracking weekly and monthly goals
    • Engage in Deputy Director meetings to ensure alignment on organizational priorities, including monthly intakes, staff meeting planning, town halls, organizational updates, and internal coordination needs

    Programs, Systems & Data Management

    • Design and strengthen organizing programs, systems, and workflows
    • Oversee data tracking, reporting, and CRM systems (e.g., EveryAction)
    • Ensure accurate data entry, analysis, and reporting across campaigns
    • Use data to inform strategy, evaluate progress, and improve outcomes
    • Build systems to track base-building, leadership development, and campaign impact
    • Maintain strong data practices aligned with CUFFH’s organizing model and reporting expectations

    Leadership Development & Political Education

    • Design and facilitate leadership development opportunities for organizing staff and CUFFH members
    • Identify and support members ready to deepen political analysis and leadership (“politicization”)
    • Oversee political activation efforts, including Tenant Association engagement
    • Build leadership pipelines rooted in grassroots organizing

    Base-Building & Member Engagement

    • Mobilize and engage members to sustain and grow CUFFH’s base through campaigns, direct actions, and outreach
    • Engage directly with members and volunteers through:Canvassing + Phone banking + Social media outreach
    • Recruit new dues-paying members annually
    • Collaborate with the PD base-building team to expand membership and strengthen retention

    Community Organizing & Coalition Building

    • Build and maintain relationships with grassroots leaders and community members
    • Support coalition-building efforts aligned with CUFFH’s campaigns and priorities
    • Coordinate with local and national partners
    • Ensure organizing strategies remain grounded in community needs and leadership

    Program & Campaign Oversight

    • Oversee CUFFH Youth programming and leadership development spaces
    • Supervise and support CUFFH committees: Housing and Youth Council
    • Oversee organizing-related programming and events, including:
      • Town halls + New member orientations + Special events
    • Ensure alignment of all programs with CUFFH’s organizing goals and campaign priorities

    • This position requires a primarily in-person schedule, including regular fieldwork, canvassing, and meetings with tenants and community members. Some administrative tasks may be completed remotely on a flexible hybrid basis.
