Associate Director of Development
Reports To: Director of Development & Marketing
FLSA Status: 4 Day Work Week - Full-Time, Exempt
Position Summary
The Associate Director of Development plays a key role in advancing the fundraising and development efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest New Jersey. Reporting directly to the Director of Resource Development & Marketing (DOD), this role is responsible for supporting the DOD and growing revenue streams through individual giving, corporate partnerships, special events, and foundation support. The Associate Director of Development works collaboratively with internal staff, volunteers, and community stakeholders to strengthen donor relationships and increase philanthropic support to sustain and expand programs serving youth across Northwest New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
Development and Grant Management
- Support the DOD in the execution of all fundraising campaigns and strategies.
- Assist in the creation and execution of the annual development plan to meet revenue goals.
- Prepare grant applications for funding supporting mission, programs, scholarship and capital needs with reporting as required.
- Create an annual timeline of grants.
- Identify new funding opportunities and support grant prospect research.
- Develop innovative approaches to generate new prospects and increase the level of giving from existing donors
- Track all donor activity in the CRM system in a timely and accurate manner.
- Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Develop and implement strategies with DOD to grow mid-level and recurring giving programs.
- Assist in corporate sponsorship acquisition and partnership development.
Donor Stewardship & Engagement
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners in partnership with the DOD.
- Ensure timely gift acknowledgments and meaningful stewardship touchpoints.
- Develop donor impact & annual reports and communications demonstrating program outcomes and organizational impact.
Special Events & Campaign Support
- Support annual campaigns, manage event logistics, support vendor relationships, sponsorship fulfillment, and post-event follow-up of all fundraising events and initiatives.
- Collaborate with DOD to support sponsor relationships, ensuring fulfillment of benefits and recognition.
- Assist DOD with venue details, promotion of events, and the myriad of details to run successful fundraising events.
- Manage and follow event timelines, vendor coordination, sponsorship tracking, and solicitation.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Director of Development & Marketing
Operations & Reporting
- Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM database and ensure data integrity.
- Manage donor database, Little Green Light and One Cause and generate data-based solicitation/mailing lists and reports.
- Acknowledgement generation and mailings for all relevant activities and events.
- Track fundraising metrics against goals working with DOD and Director of Finance to ensure all gifts are logged and prepare reports for the DOD, CEO, and Board of Directors as needed.
Volunteer Engagement
- Take the lead in creating the young professional committee. Onboard members and provide guidance to include working with Young Professional Committee volunteers to advance fundraising efforts.
- Identify and Manage volunteer opportunities with corporations, organizations, universities/and schools and member parents that could help strengthen programming and lead to new funding sources.
- Assist in preparing development updates for Board communications.
Marketing & Communications Collaboration
- Partner with DOD to create compelling donor communications.
- Create bi-monthly (every other month) donor/member e-newsletter, collecting storytelling efforts from staff that highlight youth impact and program success.
- Ensure brand alignment and consistent messaging across fundraising materials.
- Supports the Club's marketing plan as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and development is required.
- Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Experience managing fundraising events and sponsorship programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong grant writing skills a must
- Proficiency in donor database and CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Clubs movement.
