Position Summary
The Membership and Communications Coordinator is a new staff position that will manage the day-to-day operations that sustain and promote GNPS and its programs. Continuing to build our constituency is key to achieving our mission, and this position was created to directly support such growth. The Membership and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of member services and external communications. The person in this role will become a central figure who provides frontline customer service and is aware of all GNPS activities in order to market and communicate opportunities to the membership and external audiences. This position will monitor key performance metrics in membership and communications and recommend strategies to meet and exceed strategic goals, working closely with the Executive Director and key state and chapter board members and volunteers. The Membership and Communications Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.
Duties
- Accurately maintain database records in the customer relationship management system, Neon CRM, of new and renewing memberships, donations, events, forms, and surveys. Perform regular maintenance of the database and constituent portal.
- Regularly review and revise content and timing of membership and fundraising communications such as renewal notices, acknowledgements, campaign appeals, and other communication series as directed.
- Develop and implement membership acquisition and retention strategies. Monitor key performance indicators and recommend strategies to stay on track for annual goals.
- Work with chapter volunteers to prepare reports, communications, email audiences, and events on Neon CRM. Provide technical assistance as needed.
- Resolve constituent concerns or questions regarding Neon transactions, member benefits, volunteer opportunities, and GNPS programs.
- Ensure sponsor and other organizational supporter benefits are fulfilled.
- Deposit checks and process manual contributions as necessary.
- Develop and maintain a communications content calendar in conjunction with staff and volunteers at the state and chapter levels.
- Regularly update the GNPS website with timely content.
- Manage the GNPS website and oversee maintenance with the tech solutions contractor.
- Coordinate all aspects of monthly e-newsletters including collecting content, preparing draft copy for review, designing and editing the publication, and ensuring on-time delivery. Work with the Executive Director on content planning.
- Manage social media posting, including developing and maintaining a content and scheduling calendar, creating posts, coordinating posting with other staff and volunteers, scheduling posts, and recommending strategies to improve engagement.
- Prepare event registration and announcements for state-level programs. Promote programs through the appropriate channels.
- Manage the online merchandise store.
- Monitor and respond to General Information, Membership and Volunteer email inboxes, directing specific requests to the appropriate point person.
- Collect mail at P.O. Box 1-2 times per month in north Atlanta.
- As directed, help to develop, implement and review policies, procedures and calendars.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
The position is 100% remote and will require infrequent local travel to conduct day-to-day business tasks and in-state travel 1-2 times per year. Travel and mileage expenses are covered by the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in mission-driven membership operations, fundraising, communications, or nonprofit operations.
- Clear and concise writing skills, specifically in crafting membership appeals and/or event and program announcements.
- Adept at communications using digital technologies and social media. Knowledge of best
- practices for writing and publishing on different social platforms.
- Experience with the following programs and platforms: Google Suite, Microsoft Office, WordPress, Canva, Neon CRM (or similar CRM), and social media management platform (GNPS currently uses VistaSocial).
- Experience managing a WordPress website is a plus.
- High attention to detail, specifically in data entry, proofreading and editing.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work. Willingness to solve problems.
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with native plants, conservation and/or gardening is a plus.
- Must reside in the state of Georgia.
