    Position Summary

    The Assistant Director of the Home Companion Program supports the leadership, quality, and growth of the Home Companion Training and Referral Service. This role is designed as a leadership development and succession-track position, working closely with the Home Companion Director to ensure continuity, high-quality client experiences, and long-term program sustainability.

    The Assistant Director will gradually assume responsibility for key programmatic functions, including client intake assessments, ongoing client engagement, companion/aide training, and the development of new marketing and enrollment strategies to expand program participation.

    This role does not provide clinical services or case management, but plays a critical role in ensuring that companion services are delivered with consistency, professionalism, and responsiveness to client needs.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Client Intake, Engagement, and Quality Oversight
    • Conduct initial client intake assessments to evaluate needs, preferences, and appropriateness for Home Companion services.
    • Lead client check-ins to assess satisfaction, evolving needs, and companion fit.
    • Identify service risks, emerging needs, or opportunities for service enhancement and communicate them to the Home Companion Director.
    • Partner with the Director on complex situations, service changes, and escalations.
    • Support client retention by ensuring consistent, high-quality service experiences.

    Companion/Aide Training and Workforce Development

    • Take primary responsibility for planning and facilitating the Home Companion training class, including orientation to program expectations, professionalism, boundaries, and service standards.
    • Support ongoing in-service trainings and professional development opportunities for companions/aides.
    • Participate in companion feedback and performance support processes, in coordination with the Director.
    • Maintain strong working relationships with companions to support engagement, retention, and workforce stability.

    Program Growth, Marketing, and Enrollment

    • Design and implement new marketing, outreach, and referral strategies to increase program enrollment.
    • Develop relationships with community partners and referral sources that support program growth.
    • Collaborate with agency development, communications, and community engagement staff on program-specific messaging and materials.
    • Track and analyze inquiry and enrollment trends to inform outreach and growth strategies.
    • Represent the Home Companion Program in select community outreach efforts, in coordination with the Director.

    Program Leadership and Operational Collaboration

    • Work closely with the Home Companion Director to learn all aspects of program operations, policies, and referral protocols.
    • Support management of scheduling, companion availability, and coverage planning.
    • Collaborate as needed on billing, invoicing, and financial processing.
    • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and agency-wide initiatives as assigned.
    • Contribute to program evaluation, planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
    • Over time, assume increasing leadership responsibility to support a smooth future transition in program leadership.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
    • Experience working with older adults, caregivers, or service-based programs.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in sensitive situations.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Comfort working in a relationship-based, client-centered service environment.
    • Commitment to dignity, respect, and high-quality care for older adults.

    Preferred

    • Experience in elder services, home care, social services, or a related field.
    • Experience with training, facilitation, or workforce development.
    • Experience with outreach, marketing, enrollment growth, or community partnerships.
    • Familiarity with referral, scheduling, or care coordination systems.
    • Graduate degree a plus, but all encouraged to apply.

    Additional Information

    • This role is intended to grow in scope over time, with responsibilities expanding as the Assistant Director gains experience and program knowledge.
    • Reports directly to the Director, Home Companion Program.
    • Occasional evening or after-hours availability may be required as part of future leadership responsibilities.
    • Compensation ($65,000 - $85,000+) will be commensurate with experience and scope of responsibility.
