    Position Overview

The Senior Major Gifts Officer is a strategic, relationship-focused fundraiser responsible for driving significant philanthropic investment in Tipping Point’s mission. This role owns a dynamic portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects and is accountable for achieving ambitious annual goals through effective cultivation, bold solicitation, and exceptional stewardship. Managing a portfolio of 120+ donors and prospects with the capability to give $25,000 or more annually, the Senior Major Gifts Officer develops and executes proactive individualized strategies that align donor interests with Tipping Point’s organizational priorities. This role regularly solicits and closes five- and six- figure gifts, including multi-year commitments, ensuring donor investments advance measurable impact across the Bay Area.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, the Senior Major Gifts Officer serves as a trusted ambassador for Tipping Point and represents the organization to donors, partners, and community leaders with credibility, clarity, and a deep understanding of our model and impact. Additionally, this position works closely with the Chief Development Officer and entire Giving Team to execute strategies to expand and strengthen support for Tipping Point.

Through disciplined portfolio management, data-informed decision-making, and strategic collaboration, this role advances the long-term strength and sustainability of Tipping Point’s individual giving program.

    What will you do?

    Portfolio Management + Relationship Building

    • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of 120+ donors and prospects with the capacity to give $25k+ annually by designing and executing personalized donor journeys that advance individuals toward long-term partnerships.
    • Plan, develop, and oversee the implementation of individual strategies for the entire portfolio and independently represent the organization with these donors and prospects.
    • Own and execute comprehensive, individualized strategies for each portfolio relationship, with accountability for achieving ambitious annual and multi-year revenue targets.
    • Represent Tipping Point through deep knowledge of our model, an understanding of the programmatic issue areas, and research on the philanthropic landscape.
    • Identify, qualify, and engage new prospects, and work diligently to convert to active donors in order to ensure the ongoing success of Tipping Point’s work.
    • Deliver exceptional, proactive stewardship to current donors and prospects, prioritizing in-person engagement and aligning their philanthropic goals with Tipping Point’s strategy and measurable impact in the Bay Area.
    • Participate in a range of donor cultivation, stewardship, and special events year-round to build and deepen relationships with major donors and prospects.
    • Maintain disciplined, real-time Salesforce documentation of donor engagement, strategies, and next steps, and deliver regular progress updates to senior leadership to support revenue forecasting, performance tracking, and strategic planning.

    Donor Strategy

    • Co-lead annual major gifts strategy and revenue planning in partnership with the Senior Director of Individual Giving, setting ambitious goals and providing senior leadership with data-informed guidance on short- and long-term fundraising targets and financial forecasting.
    • Actively participate in internal meetings to analyze data, share insights, and inform coordinated major donor strategies.

    Collaboration

    • Strategically leverage Tipping Point’s Board and Leadership Council members, Executive Team – including the CEO – and other staff in prospect identification, meetings, events, and solicitations, as appropriate.
    • Lead strategic engagement of executive leadership, senior development staff, Board and Leadership Council members, donors, and program teams in cultivation and solicitation efforts, including preparation of clear briefings, talking points, and customized materials to ensure coordinated and high-impact outreach.
    • Partner across teams to craft proposals, impact reports, and donor communications, supporting effective stewardship and long-term donor relationships.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of emerging donor growth strategies, including family engagement, planned giving, and other cross-functional initiatives that strengthen long-term philanthropic investment

    All other duties as assigned.

What qualifications are we looking for?

    • Exceptional communication, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills with a highly developed understanding of self and others to build and maintain productive, personable relationships with donors and your team members; equally comfortable speaking one-on-one or to a large group.
    • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others through clear, persuasive, and compelling messaging.
    • Ability to manage complex processes confidently and efficiently while paying attention to details to provide an excellent donor experience.
    • Continual learning mindset, actively seeking opportunities to learn, and a demonstrated knowledge of relevant landscapes (social, political, fundraising, etc.) with an ability to apply it to this work

Our office remains open five days a week to encourage face-to-face collaboration and to provide a welcoming space for those who thrive working onsite.
