    ABOUT MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK

    Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a nonprofit organization that advances and centers the inclusion and empowerment of Black mothers in Washington, DC in the struggle for family preservation. MON is a constituency-driven organization dedicated to family preservation. Through organizing, community lawyering, and policy advocacy, MON transforms, from punitive to supportive, government income and child welfare systems, laws, policies, practices, and culture.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Mother’s Outreach Network seeks a full-time Community Organizer to help build and strengthen our base of impacted parents and community members in Washington, D.C. The Community Organizer will recruit and support leaders, develop campaigns, and organize collective action that advances MON’s advocacy priorities.

    This role is ideal for a mission-driven organizer with 3–4 years of campaign or community organizing experience who is passionate about racial, economic, and reproductive justice and about centering the leadership of impacted mothers and caregivers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work with MON’s Community Advisory Board and staff to recruit, train, and support community leaders, especially impacted mothers and caregivers.
    • Design and implement organizing campaigns and programs that advance MON’s advocacy goals.
    • Build strong relationships with community members, leaders, organizations, and policymakers to grow support for MON’s work.
    • Assist MON attorneys and participants in identifying and documenting community needs through surveys, petition drives, listening sessions, and trainings.
    • Produce and distribute bi-weekly outreach and informational materials (email, text, and print) for MON participants, clients, and partners.
    • Connect community members with social services and resources that support family stability and economic security.
    • Participate in developing action plans, strategies, and tactics to advance MON’s policy and advocacy objectives.
    • Track contacts, participation, and outcomes in MON’s databases or spreadsheets and provide regular updates to supervising staff.
    • Represent MON at community events, coalition meetings, hearings, and public forums, including some evenings and weekends.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • Deep commitment to MON’s mission, values, and constituency-driven approach.
    • Residence in the Washington, D.C. area and availability for in-person, community-based work.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 3–4 years of community organizing and/or campaign experience, ideally including paid issue or electoral campaign work.
    • Strong communication skills, including active listening and public speaking.
    • Ability to build trust and strong relationships with impacted communities and partners.
    • Experience facilitating meetings, trainings, or group discussions.
    • Strong strategic thinking, planning, and follow-through skills.
    • Solid organizational and event-planning skills; comfort juggling multiple priorities.
    • Strong writing skills for outreach materials and basic reporting.
    • Commitment to racial equity, anti-racism, and inclusive, trauma-informed practices.
    • Ability to work some evenings and weekends for community events and meetings.

    COMPENSATION

    This is a full-time salaried position. The salary is $60,000a year. A health, dental and vision benefits package is provided: health insurance is covered by 100% for the employee and available to dependents. All federal holidays and all holidays observed by the District of Columbia are observed, as well as the week between Christmas and New Year.
