    About the Alliance:

Global health is operating in a fundamentally different landscape than it was just a few years ago. Artificial intelligence is transforming every aspect of health. New technologies, new sources of capital, and new actors are reshaping innovation’s potential for impact, while geopolitical shifts and unprecedented funding disruption are redefining long-standing institutions and partnerships. Cross-sector collaboration is more important — and more complex — than it has ever been. The Alliance for Innovation in Global Health (formerly the Bay Area Global Health Alliance) exists to meet that challenge. We are a global membership network of more than 110 organizations, headquartered in Silicon Valley, with a distinctive concentration of technology, private sector, and global members. This composition gives us an uncommon ability to bridge communities that rarely work together. As a trusted, neutral platform, we catalyze collaboration through strategic convenings, curated connections, and ecosystem insight — helping organizations navigate complexity and translate diverse perspectives into action. This approach reflects a broader truth about how complex problems get solved. Recent research by the Bridgespan Group confirms what the Alliance has demonstrated in practice: progress on the field's hardest challenges requires investment not only in individual organizations, but in the connective infrastructure between them. The Alliance is building that infrastructure.

    The Opportunity:

The Alliance has moved beyond its startup phase and is entering its next stage of influence. A recent strategy and rebrand refresh have given the organization a clear identity, a differentiated role, growing membership, and rising demand from organizations seeking a trusted partner to convene leaders and strengthen collaboration across the ecosystem. The next Executive Director will build on this foundation: establishing a resilient revenue model, deepening strategic partnerships and membership, elevating the Alliance's voice, and launching its next signature initiatives. This is an opportunity to lead an organization built to strengthen the connective infrastructure of global health — and to shape how this ecosystem collaborates over the next decade.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Leadership: Define and lead implementation of the Alliance's evolving strategy and its next chapter by setting strategic priorities, identifying emerging opportunities, and positioning the Alliance as a leading cross-sector platform strengthening the global health ecosystem.
    • Growth & Revenue: Build and diversify sustainable revenue models through membership, sponsorships, philanthropy, grants, strategic partnerships, and new business models or other initiatives to ensure the Alliance's long-term financial sustainability.
    • Membership & Community: Deepen member engagement, expand the Alliance's diverse cross-sector network, and foster a trusted community that creates meaningful value through collaboration, connections, and shared learning.
    • Convenings & Strategic Initiatives: Oversee the Alliance's portfolio of convenings, strategic initiatives, and thought leadership, ensuring they address the most pressing issues shaping global health and deliver exceptional value to members and partners.
    • External Influence: Expand the Alliance's influence through thought leadership, strategic communications, and partnerships, while serving as its primary ambassador with members, funders, policymakers, media, and at major global health and technology forums.
    • Organizational Leadership: Lead a high-performing, entrepreneurial team while overseeing operations, financial management, and the Alliance's relationship with its fiscal sponsor. Partner closely with the Board to advance strategy, strengthen governance, support fundraising, and ensure organizational excellence.

    Candidate Profile:

The Board seeks a leader who combines strategic vision with strong execution and is comfortable operating across sectors and bringing together people with diverse perspectives and interests. Successful candidates will bring a mix of the following experience and capabilities:

    • Demonstrated success taking a mission-driven organization or initiative to its next stage of impact.
    • Track record of raising revenue and developing resilient revenue models through philanthropy, corporate partnerships, membership, grants, and/or new opportunities.
    • Significant experience in the global health and technology ecosystem, especially investment and innovation.
    • Success building partnerships and relationships across sectors (e.g., industry, nonprofit, academia, philanthropy, government), with senior leaders and at the operating level, to advance shared goals.
    • Experience working effectively with boards of directors.
    • Strong financial and organizational management experience.
    • A collaborative leadership style grounded in humility, inclusion, and commitment to health equity.

Practical Details: Given the Alliance's ties to Silicon Valley's technology, innovation, and academic ecosystems, there is a preference for the Executive Director to be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Exceptional candidates elsewhere will be considered, with the expectation of spending significant time in the Bay Area, along with regular domestic and international travel. The ED reports to the Board of Directors and leads a small, high-performing remote team. The Alliance currently operates under the fiscal agency and sponsorship of Global Impact, which provides financial and administrative infrastructure while the Alliance operates independently under its own strategic direction. The Alliance's current annual operating budget is approximately $1M, reflecting steady growth in recent years. This role's base salary band is $205,000-$240,000, with eligibility for bonus and future compensation increases based on the organization's and ED’s performance.
