    Program Coordinator – Youth Development & Academic Support

    Employment Type: Full-Time, W-2, Exempt

    Hours: Up to 40 hours per week

    Reports To: Project Manager/ Program Director / Executive Director

    Pay Range: $21.63–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

    Position Summary

    Youth for a Better Future (YBF) is seeking a Program Coordinator – Youth Development & Academic Support to support the development, implementation, and day-to-day coordination of programs serving children and youth ages 6–14.

    The primary focus of this position is to ensure that young people receive consistent academic support, enrichment, mentorship, and youth development opportunities in a safe, structured, and engaging environment.

    The Program Coordinator will help establish and maintain a culture of academic accountability, where students are expected to attend regularly, complete assignments, participate actively, develop positive habits, and take increasing ownership of their educational growth.

    This position is both programmatic and hands-on. The coordinator should be comfortable working directly with youth while also helping plan programs, track participation and progress, communicate with families and schools, coordinate staff and volunteers, and ensure programs are delivered consistently.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Academic Support & Student Accountability
    • Coordinate and support YBF’s academic support and enrichment programming for youth ages 6–14.
    • Provide or coordinate homework assistance, tutoring, study support, literacy, STEM, and other academic enrichment activities.
    • Establish clear academic expectations and routines for participating youth.
    • Help students develop positive habits around attendance, preparation, organization, homework completion, and responsibility.
    • Monitor student participation and academic engagement.
    • Track student progress, assignments, participation, and areas requiring additional support.
    • Identify students who may need additional academic or behavioral intervention and communicate concerns to appropriate staff and families.
    • Work with students to establish achievable academic and personal goals.
    • Encourage students to take ownership of their learning and progress.
    • Help create systems for academic accountability and follow-through.
    • Support organizational priorities and initiatives as directed by leadership, contributing to the growth and development of program participants and the overall success of the organization.
    1. Youth Development
    • Create a positive, structured, and youth-centered environment where young people feel supported, respected, and challenged to grow.
    • Build positive relationships with youth while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
    • Facilitate activities that promote leadership, confidence, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and social-emotional development.
    • Support positive behavior management and reinforce YBF’s expectations for respect, responsibility, attendance, and participation.
    • Serve as a positive role model for youth.
    • Encourage students to develop independence, resilience, and leadership skills.
    1. Program Development & Implementation
    • Assist in developing and implementing age-appropriate programs and activities for youth ages 6–14.
    • Help develop weekly and seasonal program schedules.
    • Prepare lesson plans, activities, academic enrichment materials, and program resources as needed.
    • Ensure programs are delivered according to established schedules, curriculum, and organizational expectations.
    • Help evaluate programs and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Assist with special projects, workshops, field trips, family engagement activities, and youth events.
    • Support the integration of academic learning with YBF’s creative, technology, workforce, sports, and community-based programming.
    1. Family & School Engagement
    • Maintain professional and consistent communication with parents and caregivers regarding student participation, progress, attendance, and concerns.
    • Develop positive relationships with schools, teachers, counselors, and other educational partners.
    • Coordinate with school partners when appropriate to better understand and support student needs.
    • Assist with parent meetings, family engagement activities, and educational workshops.
    • Communicate important program information to families in a timely and professional manner.
    1. Program Administration & Documentation
    • Maintain accurate student enrollment, attendance, participation, and program records.
    • Assist with student assessments and progress tracking.
    • Document program activities, outcomes, challenges, and successes.
    • Support the collection of information needed for grant reporting and organizational evaluation.
    • Assist with registration, enrollment, outreach, surveys, and other administrative functions.
    • Maintain organized program materials and resources.
    • Ensure required forms and documentation are completed and maintained.
    1. Staff, Volunteer & Program Support
    • Work collaboratively with Program Coordinators, program staff, interns, volunteers, and organizational leadership.
    • Assist in coordinating volunteers and youth program assistants.
    • Help ensure staff and volunteers understand program schedules, expectations, and youth needs.
    • Participate in staff meetings, training, planning sessions, and professional development.
    • Communicate program needs, challenges, and opportunities to supervisors.
    • Step in to support other YBF programs and organizational activities as needed.
    1. Safety, Professionalism & Youth Protection
    • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and appropriately supervised environment for all youth.
    • Follow YBF policies, procedures, safety protocols, and mandated reporting requirements.
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with youth and families.
    • Address behavioral concerns promptly, fairly, and consistently.
    • Report safety concerns or incidents to appropriate leadership.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and organizational information.

      • How would you respond to a student who consistently attends programming but does not complete their homework or participate academically?
      • Describe an academic, enrichment, or youth-development program or activity you have helped develop or implement.

    4.Program Planning Exercise

    Describe or provide a sample of a 60–90 minute academic enrichment session you would facilitate for youth ages 6–14. Include:

      • Age group
      • Learning objective
      • Activity/lesson
      • Materials needed
      • How you would engage students
      • How you would determine whether students achieved the objective

    5.Professional References

    Provide 2–3 professional references, preferably individuals who have directly supervised your work with youth, education, programming, or community engagement.

    Work Sample:

    Applicants may submit a previous lesson plan, curriculum, youth-program activity, academic intervention plan, project, or other work sample demonstrating their ability to develop and implement programming.
