    Full Job Description

    The Youth and Civic Engagement Manager develops, coordinates, and leads programs that empower Mississippi’s young people to participate in civic life, community leadership, advocacy, and public service. This role builds partnerships with

    schools, community organizations, government agencies, and youth groups to increase youth participation in civic engagement initiatives and leadership development opportunities.

    Responsibilities:

    Manage Progressive Youth of Mississippi (PYOM): Youth team that delivers impactful results, equitably and sustainably

    • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of youth organizers, ensuring the right roles, structure, and capacity needed to achieve the program goals
    • Organize, mobilize, plan and execute community town halls, civic engagement, Get Out The Vote (GoTV) and Know Your Rights (KYR) events.
    • Drive team and individual goal setting and work planning; Monitor progress against goals on an ongoing basis, helping team prioritize and making course corrections as needed.
    • Provide ongoing coaching, training, supervision and support to the youth organizers through weekly check-ins, regular feedback, work-plan development, and accountability support.
    • Delegate effectively: agree on expectations, stay engaged, create accountability and learning, and adapt to fit the context.
    • Bring an equity and inclusion lens to ensure everyone on your team can succeed and thrive.
    • Effectively lead and manage a team of Youth Civic Engagement Organizers.
    • Ensure strong collaboration and coordination with other teams, staff, and members as needed; hold your team accountable to other teams that are depending on them.
    • Develop and model an effective, principled culture and approach to organizing and leadership development.
    • Can quickly digest complex content, situations, and relationships, make logical assumptions, and take actions or make recommendations that demonstrate sound judgment.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive documents, materials and situations with discretion and professionalism.
    • Ability to quickly gain fluency of IAJE programs, operations, and culture.
    • Practice equitable, sustainable, and results driven management.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and manage youth leadership and civic engagement programs (PYOM).
    • Develop workshops, trainings, and events focused on civic participation, advocacy, leadership, and community organizing.
    • Recruit, mentor, and support youth participants and volunteers.
    • Build relationships with schools, nonprofits, local government agencies, and community stakeholders.
    • Coordinate voter education, service-learning, and community engagement initiatives.
    • Monitor program outcomes and prepare reports on participation, impact, and performance metrics.
    • Manage program budgets, timelines, and resources.
    • Supervise interns, volunteers, or program staff as assigned.
    • Facilitate youth advisory councils, committees, and community forums.
    • Ensure programs are inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive.
    • Support outreach and communications through social media, newsletters, and public presentations.
    • Assist with grant writing, fundraising, and partnership development efforts.
    • Support Director of People and Programs on developing Team meeting agendas, materials, and capturing notes and ensuring strong follow-up

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Social Work, Education, Community Development,or related field.
    • 3–5 years of experience in youth development, civic engagement, nonprofit management, or community organizing.
    • Strong knowledge of youth leadership principles and civic participation strategies.
    • Experience facilitating workshops and community programs.
    • Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
    • Experience with data tracking and reporting preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in a related field.
    • Experience working with BIPOC, underserved or historically marginalized communities.
    • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
    • Knowledge of local government processes and community advocacy practices.

    Work Environment

    • Combination of office, community, and event-based work.

    The Immigrant Alliance for Justice and Equity a nonprofit organization formed in 2019 to educate, empower, and organize immigrant communities in Mississippi.     Work Environment

    The position will be located in IAJE’s Jackson office. Our offices are shared among several employees.

    Compensation:

    Yearly Salaried Position- $52,000.00
