    Descrição

    Chorus Teacher

    Global Village Project

Global Village Project was founded in 2009 as a model for innovative, equitable refugee education. As the only school in the U.S. for refugee girls, we aim to remove the barriers to students’ learning and amplify their voices as creative young leaders. Our full-day academic program serves 40-50 refugee young women from Clarkston, Georgia, and is designed specifically for their needs as English language learners, with trauma-informed practices and restorative justice at its center. We are a team of educators, of lifelong learners, and of people who care deeply about girls’ education, and together we are building a multicultural, multilingual community of students and staff.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

As GVP’s Chorus Teacher you will teach weekly Chorus classes for an Ensemble of 10-14 middle school girls, preparing students for public performances at GVP community events. The Music Teacher will work closely with the Education Program Manager as a contract teacher to plan and direct singing performances to highlight our students’ learning in front of community audiences. This is a part-time contract position, 2 hours per week, with classes on Friday afternoons.

    Your key responsibilities include:

    • Plan for and instruct a vocal ensemble of GVP students, in weekly rehearsals and quarterly performances in the greater community.
    • Assess students’ learning, assigning grades and responding to behavior as appropriate.
    • Oversee all choral performances (5-6 per year). These are often on weekends and evenings.
    • Contribute to a culture that values community, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

    ABOUT YOU

    • You have experience teaching music, singing, and/or performance to young people.
    • You have experience working with young people and are able to instill a sense of community and connection through your teaching style.
    • You bring a lens of cultural humility and a dedication to equitable and inclusive practices. We are a team that cares deeply for one another, and that constantly strives to encourage and hold one another accountable to our culture agreements and core values.

    Ideal candidates will also have:

    • Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with young people, particularly those who have been historically and/or systematically marginalized in educational spaces.
    • Ability to bring a strengths-based, humble, trauma-informed, and joyful approach to working with multicultural, multilingual communities, and a personal commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Passion for empowering and educating refugee young women who face structural barriers to their education.
    • Self-motivated and proactive commitment to ongoing learning and improvement, both as an individual and as part of a whole staff team.
