    Program Manager, Democracy Initiatives

    You are passionate about religious and worldview diversity across America’s civic institutions, programs that promote interfaith cooperation and healthy communities, and the skills for engaging across deep difference. You thrive in a fast-paced, adaptable environment where one day won’t look like the next. You feed off the organizational learning and social science research and adjust your strategy to fit what we’ve learned. You love to work collaboratively internally and externally and liaise across multiple complex projects. You hold yourself and your work to a high bar of excellence and take personal responsibility for achieving your goals.

    Responsibilities:

    Democracy Initiatives

    • Deploys Interfaith America programs and theories of interfaith cooperation across projects and in engagements with civic groups, partners, and potential partner organizations
    • Manages high impact Democracy Initiatives projects to connect and resource civic leaders in advancing pluralism; projects include civic fellowships (Interfaith Civic Pluralism Fellowship, Vote is Sacred Fellowship), roundtables on religious freedom and pluralism, and Interfaith America’s America 250 programs
    • Leads program design and evaluation, partner engagement, event management, grant and contract management, and operational leadership for current and emerging programs
    • Curates written and video stories of impact, news stories, and additional content with guidance from the Strategic Communications team, as proof points and inspiration for pursuing pluralism
    • Builds relationships with Interfaith America civic partners and program partners (e.g. peers at nonprofits, think tanks, and faith-based civic organizations)
    • Represents Interfaith America through presentations and attendance at conferences, on campus visits, and at IA events
    • Liaise with other IA teams including the Learning Team, Marketing and Communications, Operations, and Advancement to create content for projects, refine curricula, tell project stories, and manage project processes and timelines to align with Interfaith America goals and funder reporting
    • Executes pieces of work on Democracy Initiatives projects, including data tracking and reporting in line with project goals and impact; CRM responsibilities; and administrative tasks
    • Analyze survey findings, conduct interviews for qualitative analysis and storytelling, and recommend program adaptations and storytelling opportunities
    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree
    • 4+ years of professional experience in a related field including interfaith work, project management, consulting, community organizing, etc.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present content in a compelling way to audiences at multiple levels of leadership
    • Strong relationship building acumen to connect with internal colleagues and external partners to form positive working relationships
    • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects from multiple stakeholders
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Strong competence in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
    • Willing to learn and utilize organization-wide constituent relationship management software (Salesforce)
    • Authorization to work in the United States

    Preferred Qualifications (not required):

    • High level of religious literacy and fluency in diversity, pluralism, and inclusion
    • Advanced degree in Religious Studies, Civic Leadership, or Non-Profit Management
    • Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders in substantive discussions about religious and worldview diversity, interfaith cooperation, racial equity, and civic pluralism
    • Experience in in-person and online training, facilitation, consulting, education, assessment and/or related skill sets
    • Experience in collaborating with outside organizations
    • Experience in event management
    • Experience with networking and building relationships or coalitions

    Supervisor: Director of Democracy Initiatives

    Leadership level: Manager

    Location: Preference for working from our Chicago Loop office at 141 W Jackson Blvd. #3200 Chicago, IL 60604. Remote work possible from DC, IL, MA, MD, MI, NC, NY OH, VA, WI with four trips to our Chicago office per year.

    Travel: 20% of the time traveling on behalf of IA.

    Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 annually, plus excellent benefits. Please read more about our benefits here.
