Assistant Warehouse Manager

Overarching Responsibility:

To support the mission and vision of the Food Bank of the State College Area, Inc. by providing operational support. As set forth below, this position is responsible for administrative and operational functions of the organization and exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance, in collaboration with others where indicated. The employee is expected to independently evaluate circumstances, identify and assess available courses of action, make recommendations, and make decisions within the scope of their assigned responsibilities.

Essential Functions of the Position:

Volunteer Management, Training, and Recognition

• Manage and supervise volunteers as they complete daily tasks. Volunteer responsibilities primarily include sorting and organizing grocery donations, stocking grocery shelves, maintaining an organized pantry, and completing other duties associated with their assigned shift.
• Implement volunteer orientation and training in collaboration with the Operations Manager.
• Participate in volunteer recognition, including occasional events outside of regular business hours.

Daily Operations, Food Drives, and Special Project Coordination

• In collaboration with the Operations Manager, provide oversight of warehouse and pantry spaces: includes maintaining the cleanliness of grocery product and facility, keeping workspaces functional and organized, making sure all incoming and outgoing in-kind donations are processed and recorded correctly, and managing storage systems.
• In collaboration with the Operations Manager, manage perishable and non-perishable grocery inventory, ordering, and pick-up/delivery schedule.
• In collaboration with the Operations Assistant(s) and Operations Manager, oversee donation sorting, stocking, and organization in work areas.
• In collaboration with the Operations Assistant(s), responsible for preparing the pantry for grocery distribution.
• Provide oversight and management of pantry re-stocking during grocery distribution, in collaboration with the Operations Assistant(s) and other staff.
• Assist the Operations Manager in the coordination of in-kind donation pick-ups and deliveries.
• Monitor supply and equipment needs, and notify the Operations Manager of needed items.
• Assist with coordinating and managing food drives as needed.
• Assist with grocery distribution as needed.
• Learn and utilize the PantrySoft database system.

Community Engagement

• Responsible for distribution of surplus groceries and product to local partner agencies.
• Responsible for collaborating with, stocking, and supporting local emergency pantries.
• Establish and maintain productive, courteous relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, vendors, donors, and the general public.
• Support and foster an environment that is welcoming and positive for all. Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, volunteers, staff, and community members using various communication methods (in-person, telephone, email) in a respectful and culturally responsive manner.

Facility and Equipment

• Operate Food Bank vehicle(s) as needed for pick-ups, deliveries, and related tasks.
• Safely operate material-handling equipment, including a walkie reach truck and pallet jacks.
• Support routine maintenance, upkeep, and reporting issues related to vehicles and equipment.
• Follow, provide instruction for, and enforce equipment safety protocols and facility building safety standards.

Other

• Support Food Bank staff as needed.
• Attend meetings and training courses as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience for the Position:

• • The ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and lift at least 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Experience working with and supervising others is preferred.
  • Previous non-profit and volunteer experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, to use independent judgment, and to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, donors, and clients.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and have the ability to operate Food Bank vehicle(s) as needed (pick-ups, deliveries, etc.).
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work in a non-climate controlled environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional weekend and/or evening hours.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously with effective and efficient time management skills and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact with and serve diverse clientele and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide equitable services and support to SCFB clients.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of technology is required: including telephone systems, office equipment, computers, email, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Food safety training and strong knowledge of food handling practices are desirable.
  • The ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or higher preferred.
