    About Us

    Since 1977, WomenShelter of Long Beach (WSLB) has helped thousands of women, men, and children overcome the trauma caused by domestic abuse. WSLB assists families by providing safe housing, counseling, case management, education, health, and legal advocacy at no cost. To empower future generations, WSLB also provides “Healthy Relationships” and “Teen Dating Violence” prevention education in middle schools, high schools, and colleges throughout Long Beach and surrounding areas.

    History and Background

    WSLB was founded by Dr. Virginia Corbett in 1977. In 1999, the agency opened the Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC), the first community-based, storefront counseling and resource center in Greater Long Beach—offering easily accessible outreach services. WSLB continues to provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered services to those impacted by domestic violence.

    Fulltime, nonexempt, M-F, with some evenings and weekends

    WSLB is seeking a compassionate and creative Youth Coordinator to join our Outreach & Education Department. This key role provides trauma-informed services to youth impacted by domestic violence, including intake assessments, individual and group support, case planning, and education. The Youth Coordinator will also engage the community through outreach, education, and partnerships with schools and local organizations. This role is ideal for a bilingual, energetic professional who is passionate about breaking the cycle of violence and committed to uplifting the voices and needs of young survivors.

    Responsibilities

    Case Management & Direct Services (75%)

    • Conduct youth and family intake assessments and develop case plans
    • Facilitate age-appropriate groups (e.g., play/art therapy, journal writing, AWBW)
    • Provide youth-focused individual and group counseling
    • Lead parent-child workshops and activities
    • Deliver child education groups addressing domestic violence and safety planning
    • As needed, support childcare during adult client sessions
    • Serve as liaison with schools, social services, and legal entities
    • Provide support and education during adult support groups
    • Maintain a safe and clean youth program environment
    • Support department lead with Youth Ambassador program

    Community Outreach & Education (20%)

    • Represent WSLB’s Youth Services at public events and community meetings
    • Facilitate Building Healthy Relationships presentations at schools and agencies
    • Support planning and execution of youth-focused and agency-wide events
    • Collaborate on outreach campaigns during awareness months (e.g., TDVAM, DVAM)
    • Develop partnerships to expand program impact and visibility

    Documentation & Compliance (5%)

    • Maintain complete and timely case files and service documentation
    • Ensure client records are audit-ready and compliant with grant requirements
    • Provide accurate and timely monthly service reports
    • Adhere to mandated reporting laws and WSLB policies

    Qualifications

    • College degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or related field preferred
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in youth services, counseling, or case management
    • Completion of 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training (required)
    • Civil Rights and Mandated Reporter training (required)
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required, Khmer highly beneficial
    • CPR certified (or able to obtain)
    • Valid CA driver’s license and insurance

    Working Conditions & Physical Demands

    • Must be able to assist in emergency evacuations
    • Able to climb stairs and lift/carry up to 25 lbs
    • Willingness to work evenings or weekends as needed
    • Ability to work with or around service animals
