THE MISSION
Coastal Neighbors is a membership-based organization committed to supporting older residents, on a one-to-one basis, who wish to stay safe, independent, and connected in their community.
THE ORGANIZATION
Coastal Neighbors is a nonprofit organization focused on enabling members in Dartmouth and Westport to “Age in Place” independently and actively. Our organization is led by an active Board and Committees that play a role in the areas of finance, marketing, development, membership, events and programs.
Originally established in 2017, we are one of a rapidly growing network of Villages across the country providing one-to-one services and group events, as well as a breadth of information and support from the Board of Directors and vetted volunteers. Some of the more popular services include: transportation to medical appointments, shops and activities; help with small household chores; one-on-one companion visits; potluck suppers, and outings.
Members are residents 50 and older who wish to remain at home and stay connected to the community. They pay an annual membership fee. For those who do not have the resources to become members, reduced fees are offered. 40% of our members received reduced-fee membership.
The organization has an annual budget for 2026 of $160,000. In 2025, 1,600 services were provided to 100 members by 80 volunteers. The organization organizes numerous events in the community including fund raisers and social events for members and volunteers.
There are two part-time staff members, a Service Coordinator, and an Administrative Assistant, both reporting to the Executive Director.
THE AREA WE SERVE
Dartmouth and Westport, Massachusetts, are characterized by their coastal beauty and rural charm, offering residents a blend of suburban and rural living. Both towns are situated in Southeastern Massachusetts and boast a rich history and a variety of outdoor activities.
