Position Information
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Battery Network is the state-approved battery stewardship program for Washington, D.C., providing a convenient network of drop-off locations where consumers can recycle both primary (single-use) and rechargeable household batteries.
As the Summer DC Dupont Farmer’s Market Coordinator, you’ll help The Battery Network meet battery collection goals for Washington, DC by safely collecting primary and rechargeable batteries every Sunday from DC’s Dupont Farmer’s Market.
Please note that this is a temporary, part-time role running from May 10th to September 27th, 2026.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
Table Set-Up and Tear-Down
- Arrive promptly at the Dupont Farmer’s Market every Sunday at 8:00am to set up The Battery Network’s tent, table, battery collection box, and marketing materials.
- Tear down and safely store the tent, table, battery collection box, and marketing materials.
Customer Service
- Represent The Battery Network to Farmer’s Market customers by accurately describing our mission and handing out marketing materials.
- Communicate with Farmer’s Market staff when necessary.
- Answer customer questions about battery collection or refer them to The Battery Network website and collection site locater.
Battery Collection and Handling
- Ensure that the battery collection box remains cool and dry.
- Recognize damaged and defective batteries and how to handle them safely.
- Prevent customers from putting improper materials (e.g. vapes; batteries over 11lbs and 300 Wh; damaged, defective, or recalled batteries) into the battery collection box.
- Schedule pick-up for battery collection boxes when full, in compliance with Federal and Local regulations. Training will be provided.
Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Local to the Washington, DC area.
- Must be able to attend the Dupont Farmer’s Market every Sunday from 8:00am – 2:00pm from May 10th – September 27th, 2026, rain or shine.
- Must be able to complete The Battery Network’s online battery safety training.
- Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States for The Battery Network with or without sponsorship.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for sustainability and mission-driven work.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations (EPA, DOT, hazardous materials handling).
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EXPERIENCE:
- Exceptional interpersonal and verbal skills.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate issues.
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position is in-person based in the Washington, DC area. Candidates must be able to work from Washington, DC and be eligible to work lawfully in the United States for The Battery Network.
- Parking reimbursement is provided for required on-site work hours (7:30am – 2:30pm) at the Dupont Farmer’s Market location, in accordance with company policy.
- The position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- The position requires up to 6 hours of standing in rainy, windy, cold, and/or hot weather.
