    The Associate Director of Camp Hale resides at Camp from June through mid-October and plays an integral role in the recruitment, supervision, and training of Camp Hale counselors, CITs, and LITs. In addition, this person will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring a quality camper experience and overseeing overall Camp operations, including partnering with the Director of Camp Hale to oversee the Camp Hale Operations Director.

    What You'll Do

    • Uphold and further the mission of Camp Hale.
    • Support collecting and using data for continuous program improvement, including supporting data collection for Campsite.
    • Partner with the Director of Camp Hale to oversee infirmary and kitchen staff, ensuring proper health and food service procedures are followed.
    • Manage and train staff on the ACA accreditation process to ensure compliance with all standards and best practices.
    • Onsite supervisor for all rentals.
    • Lead the NH relicensing and ACA accreditation process. Ensure Camp processes align with all related policies and procedures.
    • Maintain a parent handbook, staff handbook, and Operations handbook with opening/closing tasks
    • Conduct and submit water testing to the Department of Health and Human Services.
    • Develop and implement the camper registration process immediately following each session to streamline enrollment and planning.
    • Serve as a thought partner in expanding and marketing Camp Hale to attract families from diverse communities.
    • Train, evaluate, and support counselors, CITs, and LITs' professional development; this includes ensuring weekly check-ins, coaching, and performance evaluations.
    • Complete daily rounds to supervise and assess the needs and safety of campers, staff, and the overall program.
    • Work alongside the Program Director, Waterfront Director, and LIT Coordinators to oversee the planning and implementation of curriculum for campers and LITs that promote positive youth development and environmental learning.
    • Ensure the safe and secure operation of the camp, including safety drills and procedures.
    • Responsible for overseeing and managing the camper experience; this includes camper behaviors and parent communication.
    • Assist with developing and maintaining program goals, activities, policies, and procedures that reflect current best practices in youth development.
    • Cultivate strong relationships with Camp Hale campers, families, and staff.

    Who We're Looking For

This said, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate most of the qualifications and experience listed below.

    • At least 3-5 years experience in youth development or in the camping arena, with at least 2 years experience in program coordination or management. Extensive leadership experience in a camp or youth program preferred.
    • At least 2-3 years supervising staff preferred
    • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated timely problem-solving skills and flexibility.
    • Familiarity and experience with American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation standards strongly preferred.
    • A team player- collaborative, adaptable, and values working as part of a close-knit team.
    • Must be able to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and be capable of repetitive motion (with or without accommodation).
    • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly.

    About Camp Hale

    The location of this job is in Center Sandwich, NH.

    Camp Hale provides room and board. Established in 1900, Camp Hale is a sleepaway summer camp for Boston-area youth ages 5 to 17 years old to experience a range of outdoor activities in the scenic environment of Squam Lake, located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Camp Hale transforms youth into resilient leaders as they discover the wonders of nature, build a diverse community, and embrace challenging experiences. The camp operarates on the believe that all youth benefit from opportunities for physical, mental, and social growth and development. The goal is for campers to leave with an enhanced sense of well-being, improved social skills, and awareness of personal potential.
