    Position Title: Marketing Assistant

    Reports to: Director of Business Development

    Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

    Aperture is a nonprofit publisher that leads conversations around photography worldwide. From our base in New York, Aperture connects global audiences and supports artists through our acclaimed quarterly magazine, books, exhibitions, digital platforms, public programs, limited-edition prints, and awards. Established in 1952 to advance “creative thinking, significantly expressed in words and photographs,” Aperture champions photography’s vital role in nurturing curiosity and encouraging a more just, tolerant society.

    With a capital campaign underway and new five-year strategic plan in place, Aperture is preparing to move from Chelsea to a new, permanent home on 380 Columbus Avenue on the Upper West Side of New York City.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    We are seeking an organized, creative, and proactive candidate to execute integrated marketing campaigns, manage advertising and circulation schedules, help build corporate partnerships, and assist in driving overall business growth for the organization. The Marketing Assistant plays a crucial role in working cross-departmentally to support our marketing initiatives, driving brand awareness, and enhancing customer engagement. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and project manager, with excellent attention to detail, and a passion for the arts and photography.

You'll gain hands-on experience across multiple facets of marketing, sales, and communications while contributing to the visibility and impact of our programs, publications, and partnerships.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Marketing & Advertising Support

    • Maintain and track schedules for advertising, marketing, and circulation deadlines.
    • Prepare advertising insertion orders, digital performance reports, customer invoice requests, and advertising commission invoice requests; liaise with accounting for processing.
    • Manage advertising records and databases to ensure accurate, up-to-date account information.
    • Support the Director of Business Development and other marketing, communication, and sales staff in streamlining marketing workflows and optimizing project tracking systems.
    • Contribute to the development and execution of promotional campaigns across Aperture initiatives, including subscriptions, books, prints and public programs, to improve engagement, sales, brand awareness
    • Identify and manage opportunities for cross-promotion, in-kind sponsorship and exchange with other publishers and cultural organizations
    • Help coordinate product launches, event strategies, and related outreach efforts.
    • Assist with asset creation, pitch decks, and presentation materials for brand and corporate partnerships.
    • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and audience insights to inform strategy.
    • Proof and edit advertising and marketing materials for clarity, tone, and consistency.
    • Support the preparation of monthly cost-to-revenue reports and other performance metrics.
    • Answer marketing inquiries and manage communication with internal and external stakeholders around requests, such as partnership proposals and media kit requests.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, or a related field.
    • 2–3 years of experience in marketing, sales, or digital communications.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills; with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Excellent writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
    • Experience with Notion and/ or other project management and marketing automation tools, and Mailchimp, is preferred.
    • Passion for photography, arts, or cultural institutions is a plus.

    • Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
