    About This Role

    The Director of Finance & Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for managing all of LBMA's financial, accounting, and human resources functions, while also overseeing the daily operations of the Museum's physical plant. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position supervises the Accounting Manager, the Operations Manager, and the Human Resources Manager.

    Key Responsibilities

    Accounting & Financial Management

    • Maintain the Chart of Accounts and General Ledger in accordance with GAAP.
    • Oversee computerized financial systems, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Billing, and Cash Receipts, and ensure adequate safeguards and controls.
    • Manage cash flow to meet financial obligations.
    • Provide financial oversight of LBMA’s restaurant.
    • Partner with the Executive Director and senior staff to prepare the Annual Budget.
    • Oversee short- and long-term investments and endowment funds in compliance with Board policy.
    • Maintain LBMA's systems of internal control and develop new strategies for improvement.

    Financial Reporting & Compliance

    • Prepare monthly financial statements.
    • Serve as the principal liaison to the Board's Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and External Auditors, including coordinating preparation of the annual audit.
    • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local tax reporting requirements.
    • Provide grant, event, and program reporting as requested by the Executive Director and senior program staff.

    Payroll & Human Resources

    • Oversee all Human Resources functions including employee records, management of employee benefits and development of employment policies.
    • Validate semi-monthly payroll and monitor payroll information provided by the outside payroll service, including payroll tax compliance.
    • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local labor laws and regulations.

    Operations

    • Oversee the Museum's operations to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment
    • Manage LBMA’s insurance policies.

    What You Bring

    • Degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
    • A minimum of five years in a senior accounting management role.
    • Supervisory or people-management experience, as this role oversees three direct-report managers (Accounting, Operations, and Human Resources).
    • Nonprofit management experience required; experience overseeing both human resources and facilities & operations is a plus.
    • Strong technical knowledge of accounting and GAAP, with experience using computerized accounting software (Blackbaud's Financial Edge preferred); CPA preferred.
    • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing.
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    • A collaborative approach to working with a team of senior management professionals.

    Work Environment

    This role blends focused office work with oversight of the Museum's day-to-day physical operations. You will work in a beautiful oceanfront setting alongside a passionate, mission-driven team, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for events and Board meetings.
