    About The Nexus Project

The Nexus Project combats antisemitism while protecting democratic values by providing nuanced frameworks for understanding when criticism of Israel crosses into antisemitism, opposing the weaponization of antisemitism accusations for political purposes, and building coalitions across Jewish and non-Jewish communities committed to fighting all forms of hatred. The Nexus Project engages scholars, community leaders and policy makers to help counter antisemitism with a focus on bringing communities together and preventing the conflation of charges of antisemitism and criticism of Israel from being used to divide communities.

The Nexus Project is seeking to expand its senior leadership team by hiring an experienced Communications Director. This individual will help to shape, amplify, and operationalize Nexus’s voice across a complex and rapidly evolving political landscape.

    Position Summary

The Communications Director will serve as the organization’s chief storyteller, strategist, and message architect. This leader will develop and execute an integrated communications strategy that translates Nexus’s research, advocacy, and policy expertise into compelling narratives for policymakers, media, funders, Jewish communal partners, and the broader public. The Communications Director will report to the President/National Director and work closely with the Vice President for Government Relations, Vice President of Philanthropy, broader team of external partners and consultants to ensure that Nexus’s message is clear, consistent, and influential.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with exceptional political instincts, a sophisticated understanding of issues related to antisemitism and Israel, and a passion for strengthening democratic norms and cross-community coalitions.

    Responsibilities

    Communications Strategy & Leadership:

    • Develop and manage a comprehensive organizational communications strategy—including message development, narrative framing, content planning, and brand positioning—to advance Nexus’s mission and deepen its impact.
    • Serve as the primary architect and guardian of Nexus’s core messaging, ensuring clarity, nuance, and consistency across all external channels.
    • Maintain and manage a high-performing communications function, including staff, consultants, and content contributors.

    Digital Media

    • Manage proactive and rapid-response communications, including the development of press statements, op-eds, talking points, research summaries, and digital content.
    • Oversee message discipline and alignment across all organizational outputs, including policy publications, coalition statements, and educational materials.
    • Oversee digital presence and online engagement, including website content, newsletters, social media strategy, and multimedia storytelling.
    • Identify emerging narratives, misinformation trends, and public discourse patterns relevant to Nexus’s mission, advising leadership on opportunities for intervention.

    Cross-Organizational Collaboration

    • Work closely with the Vice President of Philanthropy to craft compelling donor-facing materials, impact narratives, and campaign messaging.
    • Collaborate with researchers, scholars, and policy experts to distill academic work into accessible, high-impact communications products.
    • Partner with the Government Relations team to ensure synchronized communication approaches in congressional education, coalition work, and executive branch engagement.
    • Ensure all communications reflect Nexus’s core values: intellectual rigor, political nuance, and coalition-based leadership.

    Qualifications

    • 5-7 years of communications, public affairs, political messaging, or related experience, preferably in a policy, advocacy, or political environment.
    • Deep fluency in issues related to antisemitism, Israel, discrimination policy, and democratic norms, with proven ability to communicate nuance in politically charged contexts.
    • Demonstrated success in leading communications strategy within a fast-paced, mission-driven organization.
    • Exceptional writing and editing abilities, with experience drafting rapid-response materials, strategic briefs, and long-form content.
    • Strong media instincts and experience cultivating press relationships in political, advocacy, or Jewish communal spaces.
    • Ability to translate academic or technical content into accessible, compelling messaging for diverse audiences.
    • Proven capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
    • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally and support a coordinated organizational strategy.
    • High comfort operating under tight deadlines and navigating sensitive issues requiring discretion and sound judgment.
    • Familiarity with communications technology, digital engagement tools, and data-informed content strategy.
    • Ability to work evenings or on weekends based on need.
