Founded in 2003, the North Shore Land Alliance is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit nationally accredited land trust. It was formed to conserve and steward Long Island’s natural and historic lands, waters and environmental resources. Through education, outreach and volunteerism, we connect people to nature and inspire a community conservation ethic. The Land Alliance is responsible for stewardship of nearly 600 acres on the north shore of western Long Island.
Summary of Position
The Stewardship Associate / Volunteer Coordinator will:
- Work with stewardship staff to identify/prioritize stewardship needs at all Land Alliance properties
- Work with volunteers to carry out stewardship activities
- Track volunteer hours and activities
- Assist with maintenance of equipment and tools
- Assist with oversight of preserve maintenance including trails, boundaries, signage, invasive plants and planting areas
- Participate in Long Island Invasive Species Management Area and other partnerships
Requirements and Desired Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Organized, punctual and ability to work with minimal supervision and with a variety of people
- Independent/self-starter
- Availability to work some weekends as required
- Interest in environmental issues, including land conservation
- Must be able to provide own transportation
- Ability to drive a truck and preferably a standard shift (or ability to learn)
- College graduate preferred
- Experience in natural resources management preferred
- Proficiency in using GIS/GPS preferred
