Organizational Mission
A Sense of Home strives to prevent homelessness by creating homes and an ongoing community of care for displaced individuals and families.
Who We Serve
At the moment of displacement, an individual or family is at great risk of homelessness. We understand that creating a sense of home and a sense of community is the most critical step toward preventing homelessness. The cycle of homelessness begins after an individual or family abruptly loses their home. By providing housing navigation resources, supportive services, and furniture and home goods with the support of a community of volunteers, A Sense of Home provides the necessary foundation needed for a family or an individual to rebuild their lives and improve outcomes for themselves and those around them.
Foster Youth
A Sense of Home is changing the trajectory of foster youth aging out of the system. With 50% of the homeless population having spent time in foster care, lasting support is critical. This first-of-its-kind model uses proprietary technology to mobilize volunteers to gather, sort, and install up to 330 upcycled furniture and home goods—turning empty spaces into fully furnished, personalized homes. Youth also receive continued support to help them thrive.
Disaster Recovery
Disaster Recovery is a new program launched by A Sense of Home, focused on helping individuals and families recover after losing everything to wildfires in Los Angeles County. We provide essential furnishings and home goods to help restore not only the physical home, but the hope and dignity needed to start again. With over 50,000 individuals and families displaced by the fires, the need for further support in Los Angeles remains significant. ASOH will also be bringing this scalable model to new regions. 11 million Americans were displaced by natural disasters in 2024, accounting for a quarter of the global figure. If current trends continue, one-seventh of the world’s population will be displaced by natural disasters over the next 25 years.
