    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Development Coordinator supports the administrative and operational effectiveness of TMS’s fundraising efforts. This includes project and event management, day-to-day operations, and significant database maintenance, as well as support of fundraising campaigns and appeals. The position directly reports to the Director of Development.

    Central to the Coordinator’s role is the ability to manage multiple projects and department functions simultaneously, with high attention to detail, strong customer service orientation, and a commitment to advancing the department’s approach to fundraising through a youth-centered racial equity and social justice lens. The successful candidate will be highly organized, analytical, and comfortable with databases. They will be a self-starter able to work independently, within the team, and cross-functionally with other departments and youth participants. The Development Coordinator will have hands-on responsibility for gift processing, database management, and data integrity including routine reconciliation with the Finance Department. The Development Coordinator also plays an integral role in donor stewardship, including timely and accurate recognition of gifts (donor recognition letters & tax receipts). In addition, they will also support the Development team to manage large-scale campaigns, events, and projects. Tasks include, but are not limited to setting and monitoring deadlines, supporting community event planning and execution, and attending to other logistical and operational needs for the department.

    This is a hybrid position; the Development Coordinator is expected to be available occasional nights and weekends for fundraising and programmatic events and/or meetings.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Racial Equity and Social Justice Integration:

    • Center youth voice, racial equity, and social justice in all donor communications and events.
    • Track and analyze giving trends with disaggregated data to surface equity gaps and opportunities.
    • Champion inclusive fundraising practices that honor community wisdom and mitigate power imbalances

    Donor Management:

    • Oversee and update donor data in Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and integrity of donor information
    • Segment and create donor reports to track engagement and giving patterns
    • Manage and track donor communication to ensure timely follow-up and stewardship
    • Assist in preparing donor solicitation and stewardship materials (e.g., thank-you letters, impact reports)
    • Work with the Director of Development to build donor cultivation strategies and campaigns

    Donor Stewardship & Engagement:

    • Work closely with the Director of Development to develop and implement a donor stewardship plan, ensuring donors feel valued and informed
    • Cultivate relationships with prospective and current donors, ensuring regular and meaningful communication
    • Assist in developing donor recognition programs, including tracking and managing donor acknowledgments

    Community Event Planning & Execution:

    • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of community fundraising events (e.g., Fall Fundraiser, donor receptions, volunteer activities)
    • Identify event opportunities that will engage and expand the donor base
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful event logistics, including venue selection, catering, marketing, and volunteer management
    • Act as a key point of contact for event attendees and stakeholders
    • In conjunction with the Director of Development, develop and maintain event budgets and track expenses to ensure cost-efficiency
    • Serve as a visible representative of the organization at community events and tabling opportunities, providing the public and prospective donors information about our mission, programs, impact, and giving options. Model welcoming, inclusive environments for donors, youth, and partners.
    • Co?lead logistics for signature events (e.g., Fall Fundraiser) and grassroots peer?to?peer efforts.
    • Source venues/vendors aligned with TMS’s equity values; negotiate cost?effective contracts.

    Administrative/Other Support:

    • Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence related to donor relations and fundraising activities
    • Coordinate scheduling for donor meetings, events, and other fundraising activities
    • Ensure the smooth operation of the development office by handling various administrative tasks as needed
    • Occasionally works with and supports Communications team with development and event-specific content and messaging

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, or a related field or equivalent work experience
    • 2+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or event management
    • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity & social justice
    • Proficiency in Salesforce (or other donor management software) and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Experience planning and executing successful community events
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to engage diverse stakeholders
    • High attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
    • A passion for the organization's mission and commitment to advancing its goals

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Knowledge of best practices in fundraising, donor relations, and event planning
    • Familiarity with online fundraising platforms

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Upon date of hire, must be able to pass a Washington State and national criminal history check
    • Access to reliable transportation, a valid WA state driver’s license, and adequate insurance
    • Frequent travel to Olympia, WA required during the legislative session
    • Occasional travel to partner locations and conferences
    • Compliance with all agency policies regarding COVID-19 as well as state-mandated vaccination policy

    The starting hourly rate range for this position is $20.00 -$25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition, The Mockingbird Society offers:
