Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Pay: $20/hour, generally up to 15 hours per week
Contract: November 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
Maximum Contract Amount: $12,000
Position Summary
NAMI Illinois is seeking an Affiliate Development Consultant to help strengthen NAMI Jackson County and expand community outreach throughout Southern Illinois.
The consultant will build local relationships, recruit volunteers and community leaders, support NAMI program development, and increase awareness of NAMI resources. Outreach will primarily focus on Jackson County, with additional relationship-building in Perry, Franklin, Williamson, Union, and Johnson counties.
Key Responsibilities
- Build relationships with behavioral health providers, schools, hospitals, faith communities, nonprofits, government partners, businesses, and other community organizations.
- Represent NAMI at community meetings, resource fairs, events, and outreach opportunities.
- Recruit and engage volunteers, steering committee members, and potential NAMI Program Leaders.
- Support development and expansion of NAMI programs, presentations, support groups, and classes.
- Help strengthen local leadership, community partnerships, and affiliate infrastructure.
- Identify potential donors, sponsors, grants, and other community funding opportunities.
- Track outreach, partnerships, volunteer recruitment, and affiliate-development progress.
- Participate in regular meetings and provide updates to NAMI Illinois.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Strong at community outreach and relationship-building.
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently.
- Comfortable recruiting volunteers and engaging community partners.
- Familiar with Jackson County and/or surrounding Southern Illinois communities.
- Passionate about mental health and community-based support.
Experience in nonprofit work, behavioral health, community outreach, public health, social services, volunteer engagement, or coalition-building is preferred.
This position requires local community engagement and some travel throughout the service area. Approved mileage and eligible business expenses may be reimbursed according to NAMI Illinois policies.
