Location: Baltimore, MD (hybrid in-person)

Reports to: Board of Directors

Salary Range: $110,000 - 125,000

About Bikemore

Bikemore is Baltimore’s leading organization focused on building more accessible, equitable and protected bicycle, public transit and pedestrian infrastructure. In its almost 15 years of existence, Bikemore created a multi-modal movement. It is seen as one of the key organizations making a difference locally, and its approach has been replicated and recognized nationally.

Now entering its 15th year, Bikemore seeks a dynamic leader to steer the organization to greater growth and impact.

The Role

The Bikemore Executive Director (ED) will be the steward of the organization’s mission with overall strategic and operational responsibility for staff, programs, awareness and advocacy, expansion and long-term sustainability. The ED will report into the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include:

Leadership & Management:

• Develop, maintain and dynamically update the long- and short-term strategy for Bikemore and the multi-modal movement. Set goals within the strategy and measure progress toward goals.
• Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence and rigorous evaluation and modification of programs.
• Oversee and lead new programming, including anticipated new strategic cross-sector community coalition for transportation in partnership with Baltimore City Department of Transportation and City Thread.
• Provide guidance on policy efforts conducted by the policy director (within the sister 501c4 organization).
• Actively engage and energize all Bikemore communities, including board members and board committees, volunteers, community organizers, partnering organizations throughout Baltimore and beyond, and funders.
• Strengthen the Board of Directors through strong leadership. Serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction.
• Lead, coach, develop, and retain Bikemore’s staff.

Fundraising & Communications:

• Expand current revenue generating and fundraising activities, explore new events, and support existing program operations.
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with current donors; build new connections with prospective donors.
• Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from online presence to external relations with the goal of greater awareness of Bikemore and political will to support the multi-modal movement.
• Act as thought leader for the movement and spokesperson for Bikemore.
• Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.

Operations and Technology

• Ensure the organization operates correctly and functionally.
• Maintain and enhance the Bikemore tech stack to make sure all systems (fundraising, communications, collaboration, productivity, record keeping) are efficient and all staff are well-trained to use tech efficiently.
• Codify and update internal policies and procedures to increase efficiencies of work and HR, including benefits package.
• Oversee all necessary operations, including accounting, legal and insurance vendors.

Qualifications

The most important qualification is a leader who is passionate about the multi-modal movement. Our ideal candidate can speak “business” to a CEO, “policy” to a councilmember and “community” to a resident, bringing all to the table in the name of a more functional multi-modal city.

• Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in nonprofit management, community organizing, urban planning, or a related field.
• People Management: Proven track record of managing staff, with a focus on retention and professional development.
• Coalition Building: Demonstrated success in building non-traditional alliances (e.g., connecting chambers of commerce with social justice groups).
• Emotional Intelligence: Ability to work with trauma survivors (via Families for Safe Streets) and diverse community stakeholders with empathy and sensitivity.
• Measured Boldness: You love a bold vision, but you know that spreadsheets, fundraising calls, and staff 1:1s are what make the vision a reality.
