    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Peer Recovery Advocate provides non-clinical recovery support services to individuals

    enrolled in the OASAS Part 822 Outpatient Program (OP and IOP). The Peer supports

    engagement, retention, relapse prevention, wellness planning, and connection to community-

    based recovery resources. Services are delivered both on-site and in the community, as

    appropriate.

    The Peer Recovery Advocate documents services in accordance with OASAS regulations,

    Medicaid standards (if applicable), and agency policies. The Peer functions within scope of

    practice and under supervision of a Qualified Health Professional (QHP).

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    • Provide recovery coaching and peer support services consistent with the client’s individualized treatment plan.
    • Support client engagement and retention in outpatient and intensive outpatient services.
    • Assist clients in identifying recovery goals and strengthening natural supports.
    • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-led recovery groups as assigned.
    • Provide outreach, engagement, and re-engagement support for clients at risk of disengagement.
    • Assist clients with linkage to community-based recovery resources, including housing, employment, education, and mutual aid groups.
    • Provide overdose prevention education and support harm reduction efforts consistent with program policy.
    • Assist clients in development of wellness and relapse prevention plans.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences as appropriate.
    • Document all peer services in the electronic health record in compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries consistent with ethical peer practice guidelines.
    • Attend required supervision sessions at least twice monthly.
    • Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, and required regulatory trainings (e.g., confidentiality, Part 2, HIPAA).
    • Participate in quality assurance and program improvement activities.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    The Peer Recovery Advocate:

    • Does not conduct clinical assessments or make admission decisions.
    • Does not independently develop or modify treatment plans.
    • Does not diagnose or provide psychotherapy.
    • Operates under supervision of a QHP in accordance with 14 NYCRR Part 822 staffing standards.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA or CRPA-P) required or obtained within 6 months from initial employment date.
    • Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder.
    • Ability to appropriately share lived experience in support of client recovery.
    • Knowledge of recovery-oriented systems of care.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to document services in electronic health record systems.
    • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings as needed for IOP services.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    Full-Time 35 hours per week.

    JOB SETTING

    Services are delivered in a licensed outpatient clinic setting and may include community-based

    service delivery. The employee must possess sight, hearing, and digital capabilities sufficient to

    complete essential job functions or utilize reasonable accommodations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    May require sitting for extended periods, light lifting of materials, and community-based travel

    as assigned.
