Summer Quest Co-Facilitator

The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they graduate from a four-year college through a variety of after-school, Saturday, and summer educational and youth development programs.

Program: Exploring STEAM Together: A Multigenerational Journey Through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math

Duration: 4 Weeks (July 7 – August 1, 2025)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Compensation: $25 per hour

Location: Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) & Field Trip Sites

Position Overview

The Summer Quest Co-Facilitator will work directly alongside the lead instructor to implement an engaging and culturally responsive STEAM and Math curriculum for middle school students. This role serves as the secondary classroom facilitator, ensuring students receive personalized support while also helping to create an interactive and inclusive learning environment. In addition to co-facilitating lessons, this individual will provide mentorship, support family engagement, assist with curriculum adaptation, and contribute to the overall success of the program.

This position is ideal for an educator, graduate student, or experienced youth development professional with a passion for STEAM education, youth empowerment, and culturally responsive teaching.

Key Responsibilities

Co-Facilitation & Instruction (50%)

• Support the lead instructor in implementing daily STEAM and Math lessons, ensuring they are engaging, student-centered, and culturally relevant.
• Lead small-group activities and breakout sessions to reinforce lesson concepts.
• Provide one-on-one academic support and mentorship to students who need additional guidance.
• Assist in adapting curriculum materials to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
• Help maintain a structured and engaging classroom environment that promotes active learning and student confidence in Math and STEAM.

Program Logistics & Planning (20%)

• Assist in setting up materials and technology needed for lessons and hands-on activities.
• Support the coordination of field trips and hands-on experiments to enhance the learning experience.
• Document best practices and contribute to program reflections for future iterations of Summer Quest.

Student Engagement & Mentorship (15%)

• Develop strong relationships with students, fostering a sense of belonging and academic confidence.
• Act as a mentor by encouraging student leadership, curiosity, and problem-solving skills in STEAM fields.

Family & Community Engagement (10%)

• Serve as classroom co-lead (with the Lead Instructor) when students go on their weekly field trips, ensuring their safety and engagement.
• Support the Community Wellness team’s family learning workshops, ensuring parents feel empowered to support their children's STEAM education and learning.

Assessment & Documentation (5%)

• Help the Summer Quest interns conduct pre and post-program assessments to measure student growth and learning outcomes.
• Assist in tracking attendance, engagement levels, and qualitative feedback from students and families.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

• Experience working with middle school students, preferably in education, youth development, or STEAM fields.
• Passion for Math and STEAM education with an ability to make these subjects fun, accessible, and culturally relevant.
• Strong classroom management skills and experience co-facilitating interactive learning experiences.
• Background in mentorship, social-emotional learning (SEL), or student engagement strategies is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, families, and program staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Tentative Schedule Overview

• • Week 1 (July 1st - July 3rd) – Training & Prep:Program orientation, classroom logistics, curriculum review, family engagement strategies.
  • Weeks 2-5 (July 7th - August 1st) – Program Implementation:Monday - Thursday (9:30 AM - 4:30 PM); Fridays dedicated to field trips and student/family engagement.
    • (August 1st) – Wrap-Up & Celebration: Program reflections, student assessments, culminating event.
