The American Pharmacists Association is the largest association representing pharmacists in all practice settings in the United States and is the only organization advancing the entire pharmacy profession.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
As the Vice President, Membership, you will:
- Serve as the leader of the Membership Department, establishing strategic direction, setting departmental priorities, and overseeing the development and execution of membership growth and retention strategies that support the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.
- Oversee the development of new member acquisition through strategic outreach, targeted campaigns, partnerships, and value-driven engagement efforts.
- Ensure members experience high value and remain engaged throughout their membership lifecycle.
- Provide leadership and oversight of all membership operations to ensure operational excellence and exceptional member service.
- Leverage data to inform membership decisions, measure success, identify opportunities for growth and foster a data-driven culture.
- Serve as a collaborative organizational leader who advocates for members to ensure staff are aligned with member needs across the association.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
APhA may be the right fit for you have:
Experience and Education required:
- Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Marketing, Association Management, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 12+ years in a leadership or senior management role in a professional association (health care preferred) including direct responsibilities in membership development and retention.
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in strategic planning, vision, and value proposition creation; management and development of talent/staff; budget management and revenue development of budgets greater than $4 million.
- Minimum of 5+ years of supervisory and staff management experience.
- Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation strongly preferred.

- Strong business acumen and strategic planning capabilities.
- Ability to identify emerging trends and translate insights into action.

- Deep understanding of membership recruitment, retention, engagement, and lifecycle management.
- Strong knowledge of membership business models and value proposition development.
- Experience implementing successful membership growth campaigns and retention programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable recommendations.
- Experience utilizing CRM, AMS, member analytics, dashboards, and business intelligence tools.
- Experience leading large-scale membership operations and customer service functions.
- Ability to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Strong budget management and resource planning skills.
- Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively across departments and build organizational alignment.
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, and consensus-building capabilities.
- Outstanding written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members, volunteers, staff, executive leadership, and governing boards.
- Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop teams.
- Demonstrated success leading change and organizational transformation.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, innovative, and member-centered culture.
LOCATION: Washington, DC – Hybrid, two days a week in the office (Tuesday & Thursday)

- A salary of $167,000-$207,919 that commensurate with experience
- Hybrid Work Schedule (T/TH in office)
