    About The People's Theatre:

Rooted in the vibrant communities of Washington Heights and Inwood, The People's Theatre is a trailblazing performing arts organization committed to creating theater with and for immigrant communities. Celebrating its 17th anniversary season, The People’s Theatre stands as Manhattan’s largest performing arts organization north of Harlem, advocating joyfully for social justice. Through ensemble-based, multilingual, and multigenerational programming, our unique brand of theatre is a powerful artistic platform for immigrants and members of the Latine, Black, and Queer communities.

    About The Academy:

The People’s Theatre Academy for Theatre, Leadership, and Advocacy is a transformative, multi-year theatre and social justice leadership program located in Upper Manhattan. Dedicated to the holistic development of immigrant youth and youth of color, the Academy serves as an artistic laboratory fostering a deep sense of belonging and providing a brave space for participants to grow in their social-emotional learning as young artists and leaders.

    Position Overview:

The People’s Theatre is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join the team as part-time Youth Support Coordinator. The Youth Support Coordinator will play a vital role in providing wrap-around services to young artists enrolled in the Academy and their families. This position requires a commitment to social justice, a deep understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant youth and families, and a passion for utilizing the arts as a means for empowerment and community building.

This is a part-time position (20 hours/week). The Youth Support Coordinator will be expected to manage a caseload in alignment with this schedule, prioritizing youth and families with the most immediate or intensive support needs, while collaborating with the Youth & Family Advocate and Academy team to ensure continuity of care.

    Responsibilities include:

    Individualized Casework

    • Individualized Support: Provide personalized casework services to the Academy participants, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
    • Family Engagement: Collaborate with the families of young artists, fostering positive relationships and ensuring a supportive home environment for artistic and personal growth.
    • Resource Coordination: Connect young artists and their families with relevant resources, including educational support, mental health services, housing assistance, and other essential services. This will mainly include a referral process, but may require in-person direct service assistance as needed.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with the Academy staff, teaching artists, and external partners to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to the development of each participant.
    • Needs and Background Intake: Collect relevant data from the Academy participants, including Demographic Information, Educational Background, Family Structure, Socioeconomic Status, Cultural and Community Connections, Health and Well-being, Barriers and Challenges, Personal Goals and Aspirations, and Communication Preferences. Detail each client interaction in accordance with program requirements. Input client information and conduct tracking/reporting as needed.

    Program & Advocacy Support:

    • Site Coverage: Open/close the Academy or rehearsal space during summer camp (July) and on the assigned day (Wed or Thurs Sept -May), ensuring safety protocols and attendance logs are followed.
    • Field-Trip & Event Logistics: Assist in the coordination of permissions, transportation, and chaperoning for cultural outings, or advocacy rallies.
    • Workshop Co-Facilitation: Assist with educational sessions such as high-school application help desks, FAFSA/college-prep clinics, or civic-engagement workshops.
    • Internship & Audition Coaching Support: Provide 1:1 check-ins, resume feedback, or mock interviews to students under the Advocate’s guidance.
    • Advocacy Event Assistance: Help plan or staff candidate forums, town halls, community marches, and/or other Advocacy events the Academy is involved in, including outreach and day-of logistics.
    • Attendance & Data Entry Backup: Enter weekly attendance or absence notes when on-site.
    • Resource Bank Maintenance: Update the shared database of scholarships, social-service providers, cultural-ticket opportunities, etc.
    • Coalition Representation (as assigned/if capacity allows): Occasionally attend coalition or working-group meetings alongside or in place of the Advocate and report back key takeaways.
