Institutional Funding Manager

Compensation Range: $80,000 to $90,000 annual

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Development (DoD), and in partnership with the DoD and Executive Director, the Institutional Funding Manager will lead WAM’s institutional fundraising efforts and conduct the full range of activities required to research, prepare, submit, and track grant proposals, reports, budgets, agreements and contracts to current and prospective government, corporate, and foundation partners, including funder cultivation, stewardship, relationship management and communications. The successful candidate will be able to effectively synthesize information from past proposals to craft grant applications and reports in a clear, concise, and compelling manner and manage the pipeline of institutional funding requests that make up a significant portion of WAM’s revenue. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to research and track grants and prospects. This person must demonstrate initiative at all stages of the grant cycle, be knowledgeable of WAM’s work and programs, and is responsible for maximizing revenue potential. This position manages a high volume of funding opportunities, and the successful candidate will need to possess excellent writing skills demonstrate thorough research and analytical skills, have deep knowledge of the current funder landscape and fundraising methods, be committed to our mission of advancing women/girls/gender-expansive individuals in the fields of music, media, and technology, and excited to work with a fast-paced, growing, mission-driven non-profit organization. Please note this is a full-time, exempt hybrid (minimum 3 days/week in office) position based out of WAM’s San Francisco office and not remote.

Grant Development and Management:

• Develop and manage the production of high-impact and tailored grant proposals, applications, progress reports, project budgets, letters of support and other collateral materials.
• Manage grants processes from prospect research, application planning, writing, application compilation, project budget preparation and submission, to award review, signature, and tracking.
• In partnership with the DoD and Executive Director, set strategic targets for institutional funding and work to identify new opportunities.
• Identify and evaluate all potential public and private grant opportunities, outlining mission and strategic alignment, implementation needs/requirements, and application complexity/requirements.
• Assist in annual corporate sponsorship efforts to support WAM’s fundraising events and annual conferences, serving as liaison with corporate partners with responsibility to ensure administration of benefits and recognition.
• Develop and maintain a detailed calendar of grant deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements, and grant award status, managing the Instrumentl/Salesforce NPSP integration for prospect research and application documentation.
• Collaborate cross-departmentally to gather and synthesize impact data for proposals and reports.
• Employ appropriate stewardship including written and electronic communications, site visits, and in-person meetings to manage, cultivate, and steward relationships with our foundation, corporate, and government partners.

Grant Strategy and Evaluation:

• Contribute proactively to short- and long-term fundraising planning activities to establish and track goals from institutional sources.
• Prepare monthly institutional funding reports for monthly staff meetings including metrics on grant proposals and reports submitted, grants awarded, progress towards budgeted annual institutional funding amounts, etc.
• Conduct analysis of application performance, incorporating findings into ongoing fundraising strategies.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in foundation and government grantmaking to inform the organization’s grant strategy development and implementation.

Other responsibilities

• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Executive Leadership.
• Provide hands-on event logistics support for org-wide and development events.

Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree, preferably in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related area or equivalent.
• 3-5 years minimum of grant writing and institutional fundraising experience, with full-scope responsibility from research to reporting
• Proven track record of producing winning grant proposals across corporate, government, and foundation sources to achieve revenue targets of $1.2M+ annually
• Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports;
• Excellent research, organizational and communications skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
• Strong systems and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
• Creativity, good judgment, and resourcefulness when it comes to problem-solving and taking initiative
• Collaborative outlook and interpersonal skills to support team and organizational goals and match them to fundraising opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience specific to the arts, and/or STEM fields
• Proficiency with Salesforce, Instrumentl, and other tools

Physical Requirements

• Able to ascend and descend stairs carrying equipment and materials.
