    About Us

Lutheran Settlement House is part of a movement rooted in radical compassion and focused on making lasting, meaningful change in people’s lives and in our community. The voices of our clients guide our work, telling us what supports they need and what needs to change in our city. Our staff shares deeply held values that make us a welcoming, responsive, and reliable safe haven for some of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable populations. We accompany our clients in times of crisis, we are catalysts for building community, and we joyfully celebrate the strength of those we serve

    Scope of the Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Development and Communications, the Development and Communications Coordinator supports all fundraising and communications operations at LSH. As a key member of the Development team, the Coordinator works closely with the Director and the Grants and Communications Manager to carry out administrative, organizational, and communications functions across the agency.

The Coordinator manages the agency’s social media accounts, website, and external listserv, and maintains the donor database. This role also supports donor stewardship, assists in planning and executing fundraising events, and provides administrative support for grant application and management processes.

The position requires exceptional attention to detail, strong technical proficiency, creativity, curiosity, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Development

    • Maintain and manage the donor database (DonorPerfect), including processing gifts and generating reports to inform development strategy.
    • Prepare and send timely, accurate donation acknowledgments, thank-you letters, and tax receipts.
    • Support the planning and execution of special events, including communications, logistics, and on-site coordination.
    • Assist with foundation prospect research and participate in funder webinars.
    • Support grant applications by gathering and submitting required materials, such as letters of support, job descriptions, and financial documents.
    • Provide limited support with grant writing and editing, as needed.
    • Assist with grant management, including preparing acknowledgment letters, attending intake meetings, and sharing notes and follow-up actions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Communications

    • Collaborate with program staff to identify content opportunities and create on-brand social media content (posts, stories, reels) using Canva.
    • Plan and execute social media campaigns for key events and initiatives (e.g., Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Volunteer Appreciation Week, Older Americans Month).
    • Film and edit short-form video content (typically under two minutes) for social media.
    • Maintain a current communications calendar across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
    • Monitor and update the agency website.
    • Support email marketing efforts in Mailchimp, including scheduling campaigns, creating templates, and maintaining audience lists.
    • Manage inventory of branded materials and assist with design and production as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • We use Donor Perfect, Word Press, MailChimp, Canva, and the Microsoft Office suite. Familiarity with these databases and programs is preferred, and the ability to learn new technologies is required.
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to initiate, build trust, and maintain positive relationships internally and externally.
    • A base knowledge of common fundraising and communication practices preferred.

LSH is committed to creating an inclusive experience for all and we firmly believe that we serve our communities best when everyone feels free to be their most authentic self.

We value diversity and are committed to promoting it! We are an equal opportunity employer and applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Benefícios

    Benefits include:

    • Our benefits include low-cost medical, free dental and vision insurance, as well as agency-funded life and disability insurance.
    • We offer 8-week paid parental leave for staff (eligible after one year of service) who give birth, adopt, or foster a new child in their home.
    • Our paid time off package includes an annual 3-4 weeks of vacation, 12 days of paid sick time, and 5 personal days to use at your discretion.
    • We observe 16 organization-wide holidays, and an early close on Fridays during the Summer.
    • Our 401k retirement savings program offers a 1% match, and we offer pre-tax flexible spending accounts for health, travel, and dependent care.
    • We value growth and learning and offer training and conference participation whenever possible. We value the voices of our staff, and we offer mini grants for staff to pilot new ideas in their work.
    • We offer flexibility for classes, internship possibilities within our organization, and the availability for social work licensure supervision.
    • We understand that employees are people first and foremost and are committed to an overall supportive and flexible organizational culture.
    • Our work is critical, but we know it’s not easy, so we aim to infuse joy wherever possible. Whether we are offering free yoga and exercise classes, ending all-staff meetings with Karaoke or Bingo, or committing steadfast to a snack-based meeting culture – we aim to balance the weight of our work with laughter and levity as often as we can.
