    Title: Fund Development Coordinator

    Reports to: Fund Development Manager

    Employment Type/FLSA Exempt, Full-Time

    • Annual Starting Salary Range: $65,373 to $78,719

    Organization Description: The Rural Community Assistance Partnership Incorporated (RCAP) is a national network of nonprofit partners that works to ensure that rural and Tribal communities across the US have access to safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal, and economic prosperity through technical assistance, training, and financial assistance in the smallest communities across the country, many of which are low income. RCAP builds capacity at the local level, while raising the voice of rural and Tribal communities through advocacy, storytelling, research, and strategic partnerships. Annually, RCAP serves approximately 2,000 rural and Tribal communities with an average size of less than 1,600.

    Position Summary

    Under supervision of the Fund Development Manager, this position will support and lead submission of grant applications and funding requests to a range of federal and private funding sources, as well as help drive forward relationship building and cultivation with a growing portfolio of new and existing funders. It will also support the organization with research on funders, analyzing and disseminating information on funding opportunities, formal and informal reporting to funders, and other related tasks. This position is highly collaborative in nature and will work closely with internal cross-team personnel and external partner organizations to compete for funding opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Federal Grants: Lead and support submission of grant applications to federal agencies that include USDA, EPA, DOT, and others. This may include all aspects of proposals, including managing completion plans and timelines, analyzing and communicating details on the funding opportunity, creating written narrative and supporting resources, editing/reviewing content, and coordinating with internal staff and external partners on their participation and input on applications.
    • Private Funding Requests: Support RCAP fund development efforts and lead the completion of varied funding requests, grant applications, and pitches to private funding sources including foundations, corporations, and other philanthropic entities.
    • Research & Analysis: Research prospective funding opportunities from governmental, private, and philanthropic funding sources. Analyze and communicate detailed information on funding opportunities to help both internal and external stakeholders make informed decisions about proposal design and participation.
    • Funder Relations: Support RCAP fund development and leadership in cultivating, maintaining, and advancing relationships with a growing portfolio of private funding institutions.
    • Reporting Support: Assist staff members on developing information and resources needed for reports and informal updates to active funders. Support program management staff by reviewing report information during high-volume reporting months.
    • Pre-award Functions: Coordinate with RCAP program managers on pre-award tasks after notification of award, including support responding to changes requested from funders, informing budget updates, and transitioning workplan details to program implementers.
    • Opportunity Evaluation: Support RCAP fund development staff in evaluating opportunities for other new and/or expanded revenue streams, including contracts and subcontracts, individual donations, corporate giving, event sponsorships, third-party campaigns, and others.
    • General: Participate in regular RCAP staff calls, calls with external partners, and other organizational activities, as required. Intersect with other internal RCAP teams to complete work, including with RCAP’s finance, communications, programs, training, data, and research departments. Other related duties, as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, business, marketing, journalism, communications, or other related fields
    • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience
    • Demonstrated success securing funding in a nonprofit setting from a diverse range of public and private sources
    • Knowledge of national federal, private foundation, and/or corporate giving ecosystems and fund development strategies
    • Ability to coordinate with internal staff and external stakeholders on completion of funding proposals, including gathering input, gaining buy-in, securing necessary information from partners, and communicating expectations
    • Ability to work effectively, both collaboratively and independently, in a remote team environment
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure
    • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience developing compelling grant narratives, reports, and supporting resources for funders
    • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively represent the mission and values of RCAP when interfacing with funders
    • High ethical standards and the ability to uphold transparency, accuracy, and integrity when conducting fund development efforts
    • Substantial knowledge of the Microsoft Office/365 suite of products
    • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance

    Preferred:

    • Background working with and a passion for serving rural and Tribal communities
    • Experience identifying and competing for General Services Administration (GSA) contract opportunities
    • Understanding of tools and processes to effectively seek grants and other funding opportunities
    • Familiarity utilizing CRM databases in a nonprofit development context
    • Demonstrated knowledge of project management tools and techniques
    • Experience in forming project-level budgets

    Employment Type: Exempt, Full-Time

    Work Location: While this is a remote employment position, candidates must be based in the U.S., maintain regular working hours, and coordinate with team members in different time zones. The position requires occasional overnight travel (estimated 4-6 trips per year) to attend conferences, workshops, staff retreats, or other training and networking opportunities.
