Background

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications and skills:

Assistant Teachers must possess one of the following qualifications:

• An Associate's Degree
• 48 advanced credit hours
• A passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Assessment

Additional Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to develop differentiated lesson plans and use instructional tools to meet the needs of students with learning challenges
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with general education teachers and other service providers to ensure the academic and social growth of students
• Demonstrated ability to integrate curriculum across academic disciplines
• Dedication to teaching in ways that are interactive, hands-on, project-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinking
• Commitment to high academic achievement for all students, and meet the needs of every child in a diverse population
• Previous experience using data to inform instruction on an ongoing basis
• Clear understanding of curriculum, instruction, and child development
• Ability to establish an effective and efficient classroom culture that emphasizes and supports literacy and math across all content areas
• Ability to nurture students and work collaboratively with families
• Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team
• Possess a professional growth mindset that contributes to a community of educators

About the role:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Plan and execute lessons for small groups and whole group instruction (e.g. Bridges Number Corner, Second Step, interventions, and Morning Meeting)
• Support the classroom teacher with instruction. Instructional duties and roles will be discussed and mutually agreed upon by the Assistant Teacher and classroom teacher. Instructional duties may include: working with small groups of students, working individually with students, assessing student learning, and assisting with the planning and preparation of classroom lessons and activities.
• Support of general class instruction for lessons that are led by the classroom lead teacher and specials teachers (e.g. music, art, drama, Spanish, PE).
• Gather resources and prepare materials to ensure strong student engagement in lessons
• Assist the lead teacher with tracking, analyzing, and using data to drive teaching and instruction
• Support our inclusion program by meeting the individual needs of students as specified in student IEPs. Support English Language Learners using practices and approaches suggested at staff training.
• Implement school-wide student culture policies
• Work together with grade-level team to facilitate and support students during lunch and recess
• Engage in purposeful observations of lead teachers
• Assist with the planning of learning expeditions and expedition projects.
• Participate in department common planning time meetings, and grade level common planning time meetings, and network-wide professional development
• Develop and maintain welcoming, positive relationships with families
• Completes daily tasks such as grading exit tickets, attendance, and lunch count
• Serve as substitute teacher when the classroom lead teacher is absent

This is a 10.5-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
