This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all accounting policies, procedures, and reporting systems. The Controller plays a key leadership role in managing daily accounting functions, internal controls, and cash management, while also supporting the development and analysis of annual budgets and long-term financial planning.

This position leads a dedicated team of accounting professionals and works closely with department leaders, the CFO, and the Board of Directors to ensure financial transparency, compliance, and informed decision-making.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support CFO in preparing annual budgets, tracking performance, and identifying opportunities for improved financial effectiveness.
    • Manage and mentor a team of accounting staff; foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
    • Coordinate financial information delivery to internal departments and external stakeholders.
    • Lead annual audit preparation and tax filings; liaise with external auditors and present findings to senior leadership and Audit Committee.
    • Maintain oversight of organizational cash flow and bank accounts in coordination with the CFO.
    • Serve as administrator for financial software systems and provide training as needed.
    • Develop and implement policies to ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.
    • Monitor and interpret changes in accounting laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controller, ideally in a nonprofit, construction, or similar industry with a budget exceeding $20MM.
    • Strong leadership and team development skills; ability to build cross functional relationships.
    • Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
    • Proficient in financial systems and data analysis; experience as a systems administrator a plus.
    • Highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship provided).
