    ABOUT BROAD STREET LOVE:

    Broad Street Love (BSL) is an organization that helps Philadelphians living in deep poverty stabilize their lives through a unique offering of meals and social services that is welcoming to everyone. Our long term vision is not only to meaningfully reduce the trauma and suffering caused by scarcity for Philadelphia's most vulnerable populations, but, along with best-of-class social services and government partners, to break the cycle of poverty, homelessness and hunger in Philadelphia.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Broad Street Love Mail Service Program Associate will be responsible for working closely with guests who may be experiencing the scarcities and traumas of homelessness to establish a mailing address which can lead to obtaining personal stability. With a mailing address, guests are able to secure birth certificates, state identification, social security cards, health insurance cards, and Philadelphia Municipal ID. All in service of gaining access to benefits for which these things are required. Services will be rendered in a harm-reductive, trauma-aware manner. The Mail Service Program Associate will also be responsible for maintaining databases of relevant information pertaining to guests utilizing the BSL Mail Service.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in building relationships with guests using trauma-aware/harm reduction practices to help increase access to mail and other relevant services and resources
    • Explain and enforce BSL Mail program rules to ensure consistent service delivery and compliance as outlined in application
    • Orient, instruct, and direct a rotating cohort of volunteers and interns who will be assist with the mail service on a daily basis
    • Assist and work closely with Program Leadership to fulfill all necessary tasks and duties that will produce efficient program delivery.
    • Standard operating procedures should be created and maintained to sustain and maintain acceptable program operations.
    • BSL Mailroom team will schedule regular team meetings with staff, volunteers, interns to communicate program updates, announcements, and to share ideas and observations
    • Varied program tasks may include but not limited to the following:
      • counting, stamping, and sorting mail alphabetically, maintaining a log of delivered packages, distributing mail to guests during mail service hours, registering guests for the mail service, answering telephone messages, emails, and written correspondence from guests who have questions and concerns about their mail, issue proof of address letters to enrolled mail service participants
    • Accessible on the floor and available during open mail hours to speak with guest
    • Trained and familiar with BSL methods of de-escalation with guests, whenever necessary
    • Maintain mail service data, using Apricot, GSheets,
    • Excel and other tracking systems
    • Participate in and contribute to Broad Street Love Hospitality Collaborative initiatives
    • Maintain correspondence with partners and advocates to ensure program best practices
    • Demonstrate radical hospitality in interactions with guests, volunteers, and other staff
    • Other administrative tasks, as assigned by BSL Leadership

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • At least two years of college or vocational training certificate
    • At least five years of work experience in customer service industry
    • Detail-oriented, punctual, reliable
    • Proficient in Google, MS Office Suite, Excel or other database systems
    • Able to communicate clearly and effectively
    • Able to work respectfully with populations experiencing poverty, homelessness & trauma

    Compensation: $19/hour
