This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an immersive, relationship-centered environment and believes deeply in the power of youth development.

    About Steve’s Camp

Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms offers middle and high school students from systematically nature-deprived NYC communities a no-cost, transformative sleepaway experience rooted in joy, leadership, wellness, and community. Camp takes place on a 100-acre farm campus in the Catskills, where young people connect with nature, build friendships, and discover their strengths.

    About the Position

The Program Manager reports to the Camp Director and is responsible for the daily rhythm of camp life — ensuring that activities run smoothly, campers are engaged and supported, and staff have the guidance they need to succeed. This role requires genuine enthusiasm for working with children, clear leadership presence, strong communication skills, and the ability to build trust with both youth and staff.

    This person will:

    • Directly supervise 6 counselors per session and 3 Program Coordinators
    • Support 50 campers and staff at any given time
    • Live on campus (private room + shared bath provided)
    • Hold restorative conversations and mediate conflicts with campers and counselors

    • Collaborate closely with the Camp Director and senior team

    • Manage and execute camp schedules, transitions, and activities
    • Lead daily staff huddles and create structures for communication

    • Model restorative justice practices; guide youth and staff through conflict
    • Work with Activities Coordinators to ensure programming meets goals
    • Offer hands-on support in activity blocks, meals, cabin time, and evening programs

    Youth Development & Behavior Support

    • Build strong, trusting relationships with campers
    • Reinforce expectations rooted in respect, care, community, and belonging
    • Respond to behavioral, emotional, or interpersonal challenges with patience
    • Partner with Senior Counselors and Wellness Leads on camper support

    Staff Supervision & Training

    • Provide coaching, accountability, and encouragement to counselors
    • Offer real-time feedback and problem-solving support
    • Help design and deliver staff training focused on communication, leadership, and SEL
    • Ensure staff uphold safety, culture, and inclusion standards

    • Skilled at managing groups and leading structured programming
    • Able to navigate conflict through restorative and relational approaches
