    Descrição

    Who We Are

Camp Gilboa is more than a summer camp. As part of an international youth movement, we are raising the next generation of progressive Jewish leaders dedicated to the principles of collective responsibility, social justice, equality, peace, and coexistence in North America and Israel/Palestine. Our summer camp and year-round programs seek to spark a passion for social justice, develop critical thinking, and encourage youth to see themselves as creators and active participants in their communities.

Our people are idealists, dreamers, and activists. Campers and staff show up to each activity ready to build something new and explore what it means to live according to our values. To us, living Jewishly means building an inclusive and creative community — with opportunities for identity exploration and deep questioning — and always striving to close the gap between the world as it is and the world as it should be.

Youth empowerment and leadership development is an inherent part of our mission. Our teen campers and young adult counselors take on major responsibilities — programmatic, ideological, and directorial — and our year-round staff mentor and support these young leaders to ensure safe, meaningful, and successful programs.

    Position Summary

The Assistant Director (AD), Outreach & Recruitment is a key position on the year-round director team. This role holds core responsibilities in camper recruitment and retention, as well as marketing and communications. As part of this effort, the AD coordinates Gilboa's community-facing programs — such as Educational Outreach and Family Camps — manages our Parent Ambassador Program, and cultivates partnerships with organizations across our communities, all in coordination with the Executive Director.

As a member of the year-round leadership team, the AD provides leadership and support in administration and oversight of summer camp preparations, organizational operations, and program evaluation, and is part of the core summer camp leadership team that ensures safe and successful experiences for campers and their families.

    Responsibilities

    Camper Recruitment & Retention

    • Oversee all aspects of camper recruitment programs:
    • Develop new opportunities to involve additional stakeholders in recruitment efforts
    • Build new community partnerships to increase presence and camper pipelines
    • Organize, staff, write program materials for, and attend recruitment events — including open houses and other community events
    • Coordinate the Educational Outreach program, with overall responsibility for ensuring successful programs that result in positive community partnerships, leadership development for counselors, and prospective camper pipelines:
    • Work with the ED to develop specific outreach programs and strategies for each partner community
    • Coordinate the Parent Ambassador Program
    • Respond to parent inquiries, questions, and concerns, and support families through to camp registration
    • Collaborate with the AD of Programs & Operations to plan off-season social activism community-building activities, including Tzedek and Kenim programming

    Marketing & Communications

    • Oversee production of all camp promotional materials and marketing, including newsletters, brochures, and social media
    • Coordinate all general summer communications, including the blog, newsletter, and related channels
    • In coordination with the ED, respond to individual parent inquiries that come through social media or as a response to mass communications

    Family Camps & Day Camps

    • Coordinate planning and execution and assume overall responsibility for the successful administration of Family Camp and Day Camp programs
    • Work with youth leadership in developing the program, schedule, and counselors' training

    Summer Camp Planning & Administration

    • Work as part of the Camper Wellbeing Team to support counselors with addressing group dynamics, behavior issues, and other social/emotional needs

Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Qualities

    • Minimum 3–5 years of experience with youth programs and/or camps in a day or overnight setting, ideally with experience supervising youth staff (high school & college age)
    • Experience in outreach, recruitment, marketing, or community partnerships — ideally in a camp, youth organization, or Jewish communal setting
    • Experience in recruitment and project management, with an understanding of camp programming and family engagement strategies
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with social media, newsletters, or other digital communications
    • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously; able to take initiative and work with minimal supervision on time-sensitive projects
    • Strong customer service orientation; able to maintain warm, responsive communication with camp families
    • Committed to youth leadership and mentorship; patience to lead meaningful leadership development processes
    • Display a safety-oriented mindset and knowledge of best practices in the camping field
    • Personal connection, experience, and knowledge of — or willingness to learn about — progressive Jewish communities and social justice work in the US and Israel/Palestine
    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a relevant field preferred
    • Driver's license required; owning a car strongly preferred
    • Proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Excel, and Word; familiarity with databases, camp registration systems, donor management systems, or Quickbooks is a plus
