    Descrição

The Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC) invites students to apply to serve as the inaugural Christy Fisher Legal Fellowship.

    About the Fellowship

Attorney Mary-Christy Fisher had a long and impactful career as a legal services attorney. One of her passions as an advocate was for the innovative Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) model. In recognition of her career in legal services and her support of MLPs, a Fisher Legal Fellowship was created to allow a law student to spend the summer working at the CVLC. The Fisher Fellow will have the opportunity to explore a variety of experiences, including: client interviewing, legal research and writing, reviewing military and medical records, advocating before administrative agencies and/or housing court, and engaging in policy research.

    Fellowship Details

    • The recipient of the fellowship will receive a $10,000 stipend paid in accordance with CVLC’s standard payroll schedule.
    • The Fellowship will be eight (8) weeks starting on June 8th, 2026.
    • The Fisher Fellow will have a hybrid work schedule, based in our office located in West Haven, CT.
    • The Fisher Fellow will follow our full-time staff schedule of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM with an hour lunch break. Flexible scheduling is available upon request.

    Qualifications

    • Candidates must be law students who have not yet completed law school. No prior knowledge of civil law or veterans specific law is required.
    • Candidates should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse group of legal and non-legal staff as well as clients.
    • Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.

Studies have shown that women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) individuals are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single one of the qualifications as described in a job description; despite the reality that applicants rarely ever meet 100% of the qualifications. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organization, and we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the role. That candidate may be one who comes from a background less traditional to our field of work, and that’s okay! We strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don’t believe you meet every one of the qualifications described.

    Benefícios

The recipient of the fellowship will receive a $10,000 stipend paid in accordance with CVLC’s standard payroll schedule.
