AGENCY DESCRIPTION:
Guided by lived experience and evidence-based practices, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City (NAMI-NYC) helps families and individuals affected by mental illness build better lives through education, support, and advocacy. We offer evidence-based education classes, 30+ support groups, family mentoring, a multilingual Helpline, and more to family members and individuals completely FREE regardless of income, insurance, or immigration status. We’re also the only non-profit directly supporting family members caring for those with mental illness.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Compensation: $2,000 stipend will be provided after the completion of 140 hours of work. Interns can complete these hours over the course of between 10 to 20 weeks depending on their school schedule.
- Time Commitment: Fully in person. Schedules can be flexible with classes and other obligations.
- Office Address: Interns must be able to commute to 307 W 38th Street, 8th Floor New York, NY 10018.

- Spring semester: Mid-January or after
- Fall semester: Mid-September or after
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Communication to our class participants, including sending reminders for classes and reaching out to participants who have missed class
- Data entry for program evaluations that have been completed on paper
- Support in-person volunteer trainings and events
- Conduct outreach activities for our programs to increase service rates
- Support with updating public-facing educational guides and materials
- Serve shifts at our office reception, including greeting visitors, answering basic questions about the organization, and connecting them to the Helpline or other staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be bilingual in English & Spanish
- Must identify as someone with a mental health condition or as a family member or friend of someone with a mental health condition.
- Must be a full or part time student at a college or university going into upcoming semester.
- Must have the first round of COVID-19 vaccines (two doses of Moderna or Pfizer or one dose of J&J).
