    Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) headquartered in California is a leading advocate for ocean protection and watershed species protection. www.Seaturtles.org

    Position Summary

    This is a six-month position. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

    TIRN is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and creative person to assist and learn from our communications manager. The communications intern will re-write portions of our website, generate social media and press release content, and streamline communications best practices. This position is ideal for those looking to gain hands-on experience in the communications discipline related to environmental protection and environmental justice.

    Intern Roles & Responsibilities

      • Meet with the communications manager weekly.
      • Create new website content using WordPress or SquareSpace (please note that you do not need to be proficient in both of these platforms, our Comms Manager will guide you through it)
      • Learn program content and interview program staff to generate social media and website content, and press releases.
      • Data analysis to measure outreach impact and success; generate and follow metrics.

    Qualifications & Skills

      • Ability to use PC or Mac and phone for direct and internet communications
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to work independently and organize oneself
      • Ability to project a positive image of the organization
      • Creative thinker and interest in helping to improve and develop new methods and ideas to accomplish goals
      • Strong interest in nature and the environment. Willingness to participate in creative thinking towards paradigm changing concepts and outreach methods.
      • Internet and design skills, including WordPress, Squarespace, Canva, and others.

    Learning Objectives

    The Communications internship will help you gain hands-on experience in the comms discipline for environmental advocacy, policy and teamwork with professionals in their field (advocacy, communications, and policy).

    Terms

    Location: This position can be remote or residential*, located at our headquarters in Olema, California, with free, shared housing nearby.

    Starting Time: This is a six-month position, applications are reviewed and filled on a rolling basis.

    Hours: Full-time 30 hours/week minimum.

    Benefits: We are happy to work with academic departments to ensure the internship meets requirements for academic credit.
